Welcome to Holy Cross Live! We will begin shortly.
Everyone's here, everyone's camera looks great, um.
I'll go down the road. I just want to make sure that we can that everything sounds OK as well. So Lindy do you just want to tell us how things are going at home so we can just listen to your microphone for a bit?
Sounds great and again we love all the family photos back there.
That's wonderful, actually. Reminds me of.
It reminds me of, you know, in the Oval Office when the president has his family behind him during the dress. But it looks like about you, David.
You could talk more about the weather or your hair.
God yeah, the weather right now sunny but were called for one to four inches of snow tonight.
Yeah, but I definitely need a haircut.
I'm wondering about that too. I'm wondering how long, how long it will go before I pull out the.
You know the buzzer myself, so hopefully doesn't get that back about you, Jane.
Well, we have a flow bee, one of those as seen on TV things and I cut.
With the like the vacuum.
Uh-huh I still cut my husband's hair. We've saved a lot of money over the years and so I've been joking with the neighbors as their buzzing their kids here so I have a flow bee you can borrow.
Good for you. Most popular person in the neighborhood and and I will say, uhm, I think for both Lindy, but especially Jane, uhm, definitely improvements in video quality since yesterday, so that's noticeable.
OK, good, I I did not get to Hardwire into My Internet, but I am down to only one person at home right now.
He may or may not be out of bed. This is how college will come.
I won't tell the parents.
How many colleges would not going well?
So we are done OK. Everyone looks great, sounds great. Um what we're gonna do now since we're down to about one minute and 40 seconds until we're live. Um, we're all going to click are broadcast video button which will put us in the background.
Play first real quick again. It real quick. Jane is, uh, is Mike Gonna make a cameo or no?
Yeah, I meant to tell you know he had to go into work so.
Mike will be the first one to come in and then he will call the rest of you in, um, so the same way that you joined by clicking broadcast video and clicking connect is how you'll join the panel again. So good luck everybody. Thank you again and um, this this will be fun, alright. Will see you soon.
Welcome everybody, Good afternoon and good morning to those on the West Coast. You have tuned into Holy Cross live the special edition today to talk about what it means to have your children leave the nest. A conversation four and with parents. I am doctor Michael Griffin. I'm the senior vice president of Holy Cross College and I will be entering my 17th year at the college I have.
Been around the college along time in many different roles as professor as someone who's lead a Department and now for these last three plus years as the colleges senior vice president. So I get very excited about the mission of Holy Cross and today, especially with you parents. We get to share the mission of Holy Cross College from the parent perspective. So once again, welcome everybody to Holy Cross life.

Hello from South Florida
As to where you're from, and, uh, will, uh, will get this conversation started as we see people from California to New York, Minnesota. This is great people from everywhere. This is fantastic. Looking at all these different places, this is going to be a great conversation. And most importantly today is to have it be a conversation among parents. So To that end we have invited some very special guests who in fact are.

Hello from Longboat Key Florida
And as the parents come in, you see Lindy Mayer joining us, her daughter, Erin. We see David Mogle and we see Jane's coach and what I'd like to do to start this is I'm gonna have them introduce themselves. And what one thing so that so that all of you parents and others tuning in no is that in that chat box throughout anything you hear, feel free to drop a comment or a question.
We will have good time for question and answers and uh, and will make sure even if we don't get to every single one, these three parents have agreed that they would help even follow up with you so that all your questions are answered and so even as I asked him a couple initial questions, feel free throughout to be going through and asking anything you want of these parents, but let's get it. Started by will begin with Lindy Lindy Mar. How about a little introduction of yourself?
And, uh, what brings you here today?

Hello from Colorado
Thanks Wendy, how 'bout David David Margel, who himself is a principal of a high school, so he's navigating the current crisis. But here today talking about being a Holy Cross Dad.
Yeah, so I'm blessed. I have three boys. My oldest graduated from Purdue last year and professional writing Dillon is our son that is at Holy Cross. He's a junior double majoring in business and theology. My youngest is a chemistry major at Purdue. As a freshman this year, but Dylan has had a ton of experiences that are just going to be wonderful to share with you at Holy Cross.
And the feel of that small college but yet to have that connection with Notre Dame and get the big school feel he got to experience with his brothers are at Purdue but in portions that he wanted to experience it so look forward to sharing that information with you.
Excellent thanks David and last but not least, uh, the Great Jane's coach.
Jessica M.
12:06:14 PM
Hi, from South Bend, IN!
Thank you, uh, I'm from the Cleveland, OH area and I have four children, the youngest of whom is Billy and he's a junior at Holy Cross. Uh, through all the kids we've talked a lot of colleges over the years. I'm a graduate of Notre Dame. My daughter as well, and my daughter really encouraged Billy to consider Holy Cross and the more we researched it thought it would be a great fit and it has been so we're really happy to be here and I'll just share.
There you go, or we cross mom.
Sure will welcome everybody. Thanks for tuning in. Uhm, I have Seven kids and we live in North Central Kansas. Our daughter Erin is our third child. She's a junior at Holy Cross majoring in elementary education and errands, kind of Journey to Holy Cross is a little unique. She's love Notre Dame her whole life. Been been a big fan. Our family is an we were actually visiting Notre Dame. We were attending a conference there the summer.
Before her senior year, so she got the opportunity to do a campus visit at Holy Cross and loved it. Just loved it and really kind of knew that's where she wanted to go. But as it came time to choose a college, she wasn't quite ready to be 14 hours from home.
That's that's great. Thanks Jane. Uhm, So what I'll do as I said is is ask a couple initial questions. Then we'll open it up for a wide ranging discussion. So first you know this phrase leaving the nest. I want to start with. Start with David on this is you know how hard is it to send a kid away to college? Now some of our viewers and we do have some students who are listening but but for the parents you know some. It'll be their very first time.
So she went to college here in Kansas her freshman year and had a Goodyear but that kind of gave her the experience and got her feet wet a little bit and so she transferred Holy Cross her sophomore year and has been just having a wonderful time there.
Some there an old pro? Uh, have you had a lot of tears or cheers? How's your experience? Been David?
Well, since Donald's our second son, there wasn't quite as many tears. Not quite as many cheers is there was for my last son.

What are the things I think it was pretty unique for us as a family Dillon are middle son is always had a lot of health issues. He was part of Rileys as a year old baby infant I should say and has been a part of having to deal with health issues his whole life and so that made us a little nervous. Now he's going to have to manage everything that he has to manage and Holy Cross has been a very supportive environment and we don't know if we heard from him until Thanksgiving.
Or maybe we heard. I think there was a parent weekend in the fall. He allowed us to come up for a day and then said that we had to leave. So I I think it's been a good experience in that exchange for both of us.
Yeah great great. And how about how about Jane are you? Are you a crier when you say those goodbyes?
Not really, I having gone through now with four kids. Uh, I was excited for all of them. I really wanted the experience for them. The college experience specially away. Uhm. The closest was my daughter went to Kent State but I do admit for my oldest I did cry a little bit when we say goodbye. By the time I got around to Billy there was no tears.
And uh, in fact sophomore year we just handed him the car keys and said, go.
Alright, well good good that's uh, that's great. Yeah, I'm sure yeah there's a whole range uh, range of emotions and so you know the the next question I wanted to hear from a little bit more now specific into Holy Cross and that is as your son's or daughter. Daughters were at Holy Cross was there now I'll ask Mindy first.
Was there a moment when, as a mom, you sort of new? OK, now they're they've really. They found their college home. They they are thriving. And now I know that there OK is there. Was there a moment that you can describe that let you know as a mom? OK, Aaron Aaron's OK.
Keegan D.
12:10:31 PM
Keegan's dad, Holy Cross and ND alum, Holy Cross rocks, great place with great opportunities!
Nolan S.
12:11:26 PM
we don't hear Lindy
That's cool, yeah, no Inter murals are a lot of fun. And, uh, yeah, they're definitely, uh, for everybody you don't have to be a, you know, the world's greatest athlete. So that's, uh, that's great. So cool. How about how about David was, uh, was there a moment when you sort of thought? Alright, Dillon is OK. He's home, he's flourishing.
Yeah, I, I think there's two that kind of pop in my head. The first one would be the first parent weekend that we were allowed to come back in the fall and you know it was a great time to be on campus and there was a home Notre Dame football game and we had lunch at Holy Cross and get to meet some of his new friends and then suddenly he had to break away and say Hey, sorry guys but.

12:12:11 PM

12:12:22 PM
are others having trouble hearing Lindy?
Josh O.
12:12:33 PM
I refreshed but no audio for Lindy
I volunteered at the Knights of Columbus and so we're serving Steaks at the Notre Dame game, so he he up and left us. I mean literally up and left us. We're like OK. I think he's getting this thing and then later on in the hockey season a bunch of our friends had reported seeing Dylan on the Jumbotron at the hockey game, cheering on the Fighting Irish and how excited he looked in, uh, he shared a lot of experiences like that, so we had new. He found his home.
Keegan D.
12:12:40 PM
It's all good, I'm using chrome.
OK, now David. So now I I I let that sink in as a parent. So you're, uh, you had to find out that your son was doing great via the Jumbotron, you know? So there's there's helicopter parents and Jumbotron parents.
Jennifer P.
12:13:01 PM
Are intramurals popular for the students living on campus? What percentage of students play?
Jennifer P.
12:13:05 PM
David mentioned "Parents Weekend" in the fall twice. Have dates been announced for a fall and/or spring "Parent Weekend", so we can plan to visit HC-ND?
Yeah, do it is. Yeah, he's a great hockey fan. We got a lot of students who really, uh, who really get into the The Fighting Irish sports. So so that's great. Um, so you know, I guess one of the things I would move to Jane for this question is, uhm.
Jennifer P.
12:13:15 PM
David mentioned "Parents Weekend" in the fall twice. Have dates for announced so we can plan to visit HC-ND, if we can?
I think as a parent you know and my wife and I are. Kids are small. So uh, our biggest challenge right now is E learning but not yet college. Uh, but I can imagine that the thing that may be a parent would want to know most as their son or daughter goes through colleges. Are they growing and so and you know, as a along time teacher and Administrator Holy Cross I I take this as one of our most sacred responsibilities to help.
These young men, women, men and women grow, so could you share Jane? What is? What are some ways, uh, one or two or whatever? What are some ways specifically in which you've seen Billy grow during his time at Holy Cross?
It's it's really been wonderful to watch him grow up. Part of the reason we thought this was a good fit coming from a small Catholic High School I just I knew this environment would help him Excel academically. Certainly he's been able to go to its professors if he's having issues just having the courage to go do that, I think is a sign of growth in then outwardly the involvement in Intramurals doing things that he
Used to do at our church and school like serving Mass, just seeing him continue to be involved in those kind of things. But because he wants to and not just just 'cause you think it.
Something you should do and then from there moving into NRA position this year, I've seen tremendous growth for him. I I think it hit me when we were there out of football weekend and some of his residence had taken a photo. They had converted a painting on the wall and put Billy's photo on there and photographed it. Somehow they didn't damage the picture but it just made me realize that he's connected with these kids.
And, you know, in a way that some it's very interpersonal. Um, balancing the role of being a leader, but also a friend. So I I've just seen.
Selena P.
12:15:24 PM
How safe is the HC campus? Saftey features
Selena P.
12:15:25 PM
How safe is the campus?
Just marvelous academic and personal growth.
Yeah it yeah. And and you know someone, uh, who knows Billy too? He wanted thinks he's our incoming student body president and uh, you know, I think that also is someone you know. There's so many great leadership opportunities. It sounds like Billy has really been able to take advantage of really finding his voice in a smaller community. Is that right?
Yes, exactly, that's exactly what it was, 'cause it was. It was starting to bubble up in high school, but I think it's really coming to fruition here and it, and it would not have happened at a big school for him at all.
Yeah yeah, great now one more question. 'cause I'm going to ask the same question of the growth to David Lee but I have to mention with Jane here 'cause it'll come up. It'll come up a little later. You know we have these parents weekends and I'm going to give you the dates and talk about those. But Jane and her husband Mike. I just very briefly they. They made a very very impactful appearance because part of this past year was an 80s dance theme and you guys came.
Were you dressed as characters? I just think everyone needs to know your custom.
To be specific characters, we just went through the closets at home. We got the, uh, I think I wore billys varsity jacket. We found nylon track jackets and headbands and I think we were the only parents doing the line dancing to Footloose at the name.
Catherine Ficker
12:17:01 PM
great questions everyone. We will work on answering all of them. Jennifer, intramural sports are very popular, I would say about 25-30% of our students play intramurals, and many students come to watch.
No problem, right? Extra exit will you were the hit of the party so the parents who have fun in those, uh, those days. So how about? Uhm, let's go to let's go to Lindy. Uhm. What are the ways in which you've seen Aaron grow during her time at Holy Cross?
Anthony M.
12:17:12 PM
What kind of discernment (priesthood) opportunities are there at HC?
Cody W.
12:17:41 PM
How large are the class sizes?
Jordan Schank
12:18:08 PM
Hi Cody! The average class size is about 14 students. No classes are larger than 30!
Right student teaching, right?
Catherine Ficker
12:19:52 PM
Anthony, there is a vibrant, young seminary across the street at ND and students can easily connect with Priests and seminarians. There are copious opportunities for guidance in discernment for the religious life.
That's great and you know what? What are things I want to mention before we go to David? Is that idea of experiential learning that really is one of when you talk about what's the Holy Cross thing? Um, that's one of the things that makes US special is we do get the students out and involved in experiential learning. And so it's just for me. It's this great combo of a real strong sense of formation that we have that classic notion of We are.
Josh O.
12:20:06 PM
Using Chrome & refreshed but did not have audio for Lindy
Nolan S.
12:20:11 PM
still can't hear Lindy
A partners with parents informing young people and giving that strong, moral and sense of purpose an formation while at the same time not being a bubble and we get our students out to interact in the community. And so I like that combo. I think that's kind of part of our secret sauce of really strong on the formation, but also resisting any sort of bubble. So that just I wanted to add that 'cause That's really one of the principles that drives us.
In the administration as we guide the college so. But how 'bout, David? Um? What was a moment when you, uh, are not a moment but but in what ways have you seen a Dylan really grow as a person?
Catherine Ficker
12:21:01 PM
we are working on Lindy's connection.
Sure so like I think his freshman year one of the things that you saw was him trying to connect socially alot on campus and with the Notre Dame sporting seen you know he was tall the home football games and hockey games and and then as the freshman year ended he took the initiative and got himself a summer internship and worked in a parish in South Carolina for the whole summer in my wife and I didn't even know he was doing this and all of a sudden he said Oh by the way I'm not going to be around this summer I'm.
Jordan Schank
12:21:21 PM
Sorry to those who cannot hear Lindy. We are trying to resolve the issue.
I got this opportunity at work in a parish in South Carolina for the summer that's where I'm going I'm like.
Josh O.
12:21:45 PM
How many different clubs are there to join? Volunteer opportunities?
OK so that was kind of a cool growing moment there and then you know next thing he knows he tells us Hey I got picked to sing in the surgical choir at Notre Dame so he's been doing that for the last 2 years and Oh by the way I'm working with the Knights of Columbus with a deck as kids that were serving meals at some of the homeless shelters and just all those things that he took initiative his initiative has grown so much in his advocacy for his.
Own self and what he wants to be as a young adult you guys have provided venue that has allowed him to blossom. I mean Dillons, one of our sons that has always had this kind of God like feel to him. I mean when people around him he's he's a loving, caring person but here he had an opportunity to blossom an really shine with some of the love that he has for Christ. And it's been. It's been really fun to watch grill.
Yeah yeah, that's good and for us to you know to see yeah Dylan at the at the honors convocation, where the Chapel is packed. And that's also on parents weekend. Which by the way, someone else that's in February and so that which seems like four years ago in February. But Dylan received our Saint Joseph Award, which is someone who's really been committed to faith and service. So very beautiful so.
Catherine Ficker
12:23:04 PM
Josh, there are about 50 Holy Cross clubs and across the tri-campus opportunities to get involved in 500 clubs. So there is everything under the sun to join! Also, our students can found new clubs based on their interests!
Excellent and so I think that this is great to get. Get us started and we are really right on time to jump into the Q&A. So here's how we're going to do this. I am a and so continue to put any questions now. It's going to be all Q&A and to help us kind of moderate that because some of these might be parent questions might be Holy Cross admissions questions. I've asked Jordan Shank who is now on screen with us. He is our director of enrollment.
And I've asked him to come aboard. He's been in the control room, kind of looking at what questions there's been, and so he's gonna help guide us through QA. So and then do a raffle so Jordan take us, take it away.
Catherine Ficker
12:23:52 PM
And Josh, there are many opportunities for volunteering and service in our local community.
Donavan Z.
12:24:03 PM
can't see or hear jordan
Yeah, that might be the most important thing I'll be doing. Is giving away some gift cards and I made sure that we have some some parents who will be got them already chosen, but I'm going to save him to the end, but we've got some parents were going to hear from us after our broadcast, so some great questions that are coming in and this is a really important question. If you're sending away your son or daughter, not only do you want them to feel like they are at home, but you want them to be in a place.
That is safe. Uh, so I'm going to open this up to not only the parents with also Mike, um, how safety students feel on campus and and what are some of the things that we have in place to ensure that our students are safe while they are at Holy Cross.
Yeah, yeah, that's true. Yeah, that is. That's a great question, you know. Uhm, I think that, uh, as you think about it, our first primary responsibility is safety and then you can only flourish when you have that and you know one of the great things about Holy Cross is our personalism. My wife thinks she says that's the charism. And So what I would say in terms of the safety is.
Catherine Ficker
12:24:51 PM
I am sorry for the technical difficulties. I recommend refreshing your browser. Chrome works best.
Cody W.
12:25:16 PM
What are the furnishings in the dorms?
Our security folks. They know students and they know students by name, and so it's not some sort of like units of people who are at a distance. They are always 24/7. We have security and we also have a very strong system through the residence life team where we are checking in on students, and if there's even a concern about a student.
Patrick S.
12:25:23 PM
one concern I have will the college be open this fall?
Nolan S.
12:25:24 PM
OUr son is coming from Texas. How important is it for him to have a car? He is an athlete.
We are able to gather, uhm, we have a team called the care team and that includes security but also includes the Dean of students. It includes. Some teachers are mental health counselor and our student activities person where they gathered together to say OK. Are there any students that were a little bit worried about? And even if it's not a huge worry to say, OK, maybe we'll just keep an eye on them. But then there's other students wear.
We want to make sure they're doing OK, you know, uhm, you know, even just very briefly, were still doing that right now. This morning we we learn that one of our students, you know, has a relative who maybe maybe is experiencing kovid. And so how can we get support for that student? Because it's also made that student very anxious, and they're trying to do distance learning.
Um, so we do this by being personally connected to all of our students. We know our students and we know them by name, and so I think that's maybe how I would start to answer that. But great question.
Yeah, with any of the parents like to jump in.
Catherine Ficker
12:28:10 PM
Nolan, all students are welcome to have a car and may register it with our security and park it on campus for free. however, it is not necessary to have a car. there is a campus bus that regularly sweeps the 3 campuses that is free for students. many students chose to have a bike and get around great via bike, walking and campus bus.
Yeah it enjoyed. I just want to say one more thing just because it's so timely on the safety. I do, uh, I, I'm, I'm sort of barely seeing some of the questions go through and I know one uhm that is probably on a lot of people's minds is well, what about this fall and one of the things I want to share is that yes, we are fully planning and we are full steam ahead to welcome your sons and daughters and in late August and here in Indiana, there's no indication that there would be any reason to change that.
Um and so uh what we're doing now and this is where it feels really good to be part of a college that has the resources of Notre Dame in Saint Mary's and also a team that's really looking at this every single protocol. We need to put in place just in case you know in the fall. You want to be ready. If there's any sort of sense a dose you know, there could be any recurrence. We already are putting in place, the plans.
Catherine Ficker
12:29:22 PM
great questions everyone, if we are not able to answer your questions during this webinar, we will get back to you personally via email to answer your question.
For us to have a, we have a partnership with Saint Joe Health System. The big health system here that if there were a need to be checking to make sure no one test positive or to quarantine them, we already have the physical space identified where we would do that and the protocols and those are being developed. So I just want to want you to know that we are proactively doing that. The one thing that we did I hope it helps a lot of you parents is because I think a lot of us are thinking OK.
Cody W.
12:29:32 PM
So Freshman are allowed to have a car on campus
Catherine Ficker
12:29:45 PM
yes, that's correct Cody.
Early summer, hopefully you know you'll start to see some limited activity resume. We did normally we would have all students come back in come in June to register and meet each other just to put everybody's mind at ease of not having to travel in June. All of that they will register for classes and do all of that online so that we can put all of our attention for the big celebration. Welcome weekend in that third or fourth week week of August whenever it is so I just wanted to mention that too.
Donavan Z.
12:30:02 PM
using chrome and have refreshed several times
Yeah, that's great and and that was a a question and actually, uhm, a few parents had asked said about the plan for the fall an those are very fair questions to be asking but I will say actually look through a photo album last night from welcome weekend of last year.
Catherine Ficker
12:30:24 PM
sorry Donavan. can you hear Jordan now?
Catherine Ficker
12:30:38 PM
great!
Donavan Z.
12:30:43 PM
thank you
And the sun was out. Families were happy dinners. Masters presentations were looking forward to that. And that is. That is our ultimate goal. But of course, the safety and well being of our staff or faculty in our students is gonna be paramount. And as a small college, we're actually maybe a little bit more flexible than a lot of other schools. I was maybe our students didn't enjoy this, but we actually started classes after spring break a week before Notre Dame did because our professors were able to.
Nick L.
12:31:00 PM
how much of the activities are the parents involved in on welcome weekend?
Um, get their technology going in there and change their curriculum to to go digital right away so we were able to continue quite seamlessly for students following a following that break, I question that just came in since we're talking about welcome weekend, how much of the activities are the parents involved in? On welcome weekend, I'll answer a little bit of that. So welcome week and has evolved a lot over the years, so even since may be the last time.
Jane had been or even a David on campus. It's grown more activities, more programming, and actually a lot of fun. So it's part orientation and part. A celebration of the beginning of the Holy Cross journey this year. Welcome weekend is planned Friday, Saturday and Sunday, just prior to when classes would begin on Friday. We will have our move in. That's the beginning of welcome weekend. So that's when families will have directions as to where to park and where to drive, and a lot of helpers on campus.
Scott W.
12:32:08 PM
Mike - thanks for hosting the event. Unfortunately, I have to drop for another meeting. Take care!

Catherine - regarding your reply on student transportation, do most students have a bicycle on campus? Is there somewhere in town to purchase a bicycle?
Tekeri any supplies or furniture and Futons to to the dorm rooms. There was a question that came by about about furnishings. Actually. If you go to our residence life page on the website, there's a small description of each of the residence halls, and it also includes what furniture is already included within those dorm rooms. Of course, there will be a bed, some sort of Dresser or cabinet, and a desk and shelving.
Uh, but there are also tips about what to bring and what not to bring, so the type of items that may or may not be allowed in the dorms. But then the rest of the welcome weekend we include parents and encourage parents to be around for Friday and all day Saturday because they're going to be meetings, programming receptions, a welcome mass and a kind of a farewell sendoff dinner as well. At the end of Saturday. So it's really nice to have parents there to be apart of those activities. Welcome weekend.
On Sunday will be for students only, so we're asking parents to say their goodbyes on Saturday so that we can continue our orientation to begin classes on Monday.
Although you know we do, you know we do have a nice thing right after they say goodbye to them? Uh, to their students we have a little cocktail hour for the parents to have a drink if they need to.
Did you ever return to work?
Like maybe should we do maybe one or two more questions. Yeah, go ahead.
Yeah, yeah, we could become more questions. One thing and maybe to come to have the a couple of the parents chime in on that. But first I wanted to mention an Jordan would know you know we do now have like a virtual tour like if you wanted to see what did the dorm rooms look like. Uhm you know what's the student center? Alot of the colleges now without being able to host on campus visits are doing these little mini tours where where could parents find that Jordan?
Yeah, so those are being posted daily on Holy Cross. Is a Instagram account and I believe our handle is just Holy Cross ND as in Notre Dame and they've been added to the story there each day. But then at the I think it's going to be at the end of the week or early next week we're going to compile all of those videos to create one long video that we're going to be able to share on all of our social media platforms.
Uh, to be able to view all of those campus locations at the same time?
Their awesome, awesome and uh, so maybe uh, unless journey if there's let's do it. One more question, 'cause we know you guys are a lot of people around lunch hour, but maybe one more question for the parents, but you've been looking at what might be a good one so.
Do you know why I a lot of these questions we have answered? I do want to make one note and then actually I think I'm going to pose a question my myself and that I think might be might be helpful and quite unique to Holy Cross experience. First of all, people have been asking about that parents weekend again. So officially a parents weekend will happen in February and we actually align it with junior parents weekend at the University of Notre Dame, 'cause we have many families who have children across both campuses. So they all happened at the same time.

Jennifer: Yes, many students choose to have a bicycle. We do have a few bike shops in the South Bend area. I would be hesitant to recommend spending big money on a new bike because most students keep their bikes outside... even through the winter months.

Will the students be tested for COVID 19 when they go in August?
So we will have a parents weekend, but it's for the entire college, not just a class. So that happens every February. But we do set aside maybe one or two home games each fall. Where are college relations Department will host? Maybe an on campus tailgate or other gathering for families and parents. and I think with David and others were talking about parents weekends in the fall, those were parties that we coordinated for families to come back who were maybe attending home football games. So those will happen.

How soon after the students arrive to campus are the invited to join in with other

groups to get involved
Maybe not officially called a parents weekend, but definitely opportunities that were inviting families. You know, a few weeks after classes have started to be able to come back and see see their children and then so I think this will be may be the last question.
And I know we touched on some of this. Not everyone has to answer it, but I'm thinking about the decisions that your children have made to choose Holy Cross College watching them grow. Whether it's only been over a few years or going into their senior here already.
I I talk a little bit, maybe about formation transformation. How have you seen your children change and grow specifically because they have chosen to attend Holy Cross College? I know we covered some of this. I think this may be a good way to end, and then we'll announce the winners.

Brad, over welcome weekend there is a large Student Activities Fair where students can express interest in any clubs across the Tri-Campus.

How are roommates assigned, as it is my understanding that SOARS was a great way for students to meet and select roommates?
Well III don't want to repeat myself too much but with Dylan UM one of the things an icy Anthony bosa question about discernment of the priesthood and I know Dylan at one point was discerning that an really reached out to the seminary that's on Notre dame's campus as well as the brothers are the Holy Cross campus and he continues to have dinners with both groups of individuals to continue his journey so.

Thank you, Catherine.
And he does. He's done that all by himself. You know, there was no prompting from us as parents and then his connection with the liturgical choir at Notre Dame. And you know, unfortunately, the Easter Holy Week masses were just so beautiful to go to and and hear him saying in the entire choir. It's too bad it didn't happen this year, but those experiences he's just grown leaps and bounds in his faith and his formation and his desire to find himself in a position as an adult to help others.
And serve others and it's exciting.
I'll add that, um, for Billy, just one of the things that was hard coming home and staying home with Kovid.
Isolation is missing his residence. He was really bonding with them. I know there was the one or two or three AM conversation groups, or crazy shenanigans that they were doing, but uh, that was a real sense of loss for him and I think so much of what Holy Cross is is it's grounded. It's grounded in people. It's grounded in the academics. It's grounded in faith.
Everything from knowing doctor Griffin since we've started having cocktails with the President Father Tyson to having Tim in the cafeteria. Call my son Cleveland an kinda knowing that there's all this family and that sounds so cliche, but that this is this family watching out for my son, so it's it's twofold. I you know that I feel comfortable as a parent where my son is, but that he has grown into his role as student and and yet somehow you guys.
Keep it grounded. The Holy Cross brothers live on campus with them and there used to be a family. I don't know if you guys still do that, but I remember freshman year there was a residential normally in the dorm. For those kids there. So it really kept my son grounded. Families really important to him and I I think it was just just a great place to blossom.
Thanks, thanks and before you. Before you do the raffle would just one final comment for me and then I'm gonna turn it over to Jordan for the big reveal of our winter. I know that Jennifer asked a little bit about source since it's going to be online. She's like how will we select roommates? One of the cool things about holy crosses.
We really uh give the students the chance we have a whole survey that they fill out to try and really match people as well as we can and to give them some preferences and so one of the things that with that great question Jennifer I'm going to talk with our Dean of students to make sure that when we have those sor online events it is going to be a chance for students to connect and learn a little bit about each other and so you know it'll be able to a lot of schools that you just don't get any choice at all but will make sure.

Where are the roommate surveys
That we give them that, you know, Classic Holy Cross opportunity to have a lot of input in terms of housing. And on that note, one of the things I just wanted to say is in order to be eligible for like the to be able to give preference is all that you have to meet is that before May 1st we need the confirmation and the enrollment in housing deposit. So once that is in before May 1st that will enable them to get the priority.

Housing so um, so any of it. That was a great question and then for anything else before I turn it over to Jordan, I am going to pop up on the screen, my email and you can. Anytime anyone feel free to reach out to me so that we can answer all the questions. So Jordan take it away.
Great and I do wanna answer um uh, we've got a Nolan here um where are the roommate surveys? I do want to say that.
Before May 1, the housing it's going to be called the housing contract in the housing contract will be accessible via the Holy Cross applicant portal. So the place where your students have have seen their decisions where they had kept track of their application status before even before May 1 and then throughout May and June we're going to be adding items to what is called the new student checklist to make sure all the steps are completed so that we're ready to hit the ground running.
And focus on learning when you come in August will get all of the forms and the signatures and the housing applications completed there so you haven't missed anything. It is coming soon, but it will be found there on that Holy Cross applicant portal. So with that in true Holy Cross fashion, we've gone over our time, but we could probably talk about Holy Cross and everything for a long time I do want to give a reminder because, well, I have fun with these. We want many people to join us.
We have two more sessions of Holy Cross live. They're both going to be next week, so please register to join us on Monday, April 12th. Excuse me Monday, April 20th at 9:00 o'clock PM Eastern Time. We're going to have another current student panel. Great time for students to ask any and all questions. Tell us about your dorm classes, bind books. Having a car on campus. All those great questions that you would want to ask a current student. That entire session is going to be a Q&A. And then on Wednesday.

great questions everyone, if we did not answer your question, we will do our best to get back to you personally via email.
April 22nd at 9:00 o'clock PM we're going to talk very much more specifically about our role and the place that Holy Cross has within our campus community of the Tri Campus. So talking about Holy Cross Camp College within the history of the congregation of Holy Cross with the University of Notre Dame with Saint Mary's College and then very specifically the academic social faith opportunities that are available to our students and your students. Because we're part of Holy Cross again.
Um, we just love the relationship. The collaboration to allow our students have a very small personalized experience on our campus. But then many of the resources and clubs and classes at a major research institution it directly across the street from us, so we'll talk a lot more about that. Wednesday, April 22nd. Thank you for those who have stuck around this whole time. We do have two winners of a $50 digital gift card. You'll be receiving an email from Holy Cross admissions.
Later this afternoon, or first winner Kathy Nick Niche.
