So let's cut out the front door.
So we did a practice run yesterday in my boss was, well, it's actually my bosses boss, director of woman who is like Catherine. Your background is really dull. Need to change that and I was like.
And I was just like you know, what. I'm already not a fan of this event.
Oh, he's like an he's like well, don't worry about it too much. You have 24 hours through the mountains, yeah?
Don't be sitting for an hour uncomfortable position when I have to be responding to people right? And talk there. Yeah, it looks a little better.
Oh yeah, we put my chair. I can screw this some cash back.
But if that's where we'd like it 2 - 5.
It looks nicer. Yeah, let's see, let's see? Oh, I see what you did so.
Yeah, access fine Sarah because it's probably.
Uhm, I don't think so, because probably better for my face not to be like.
Like adding go OK, you know kind of just like flat right? So it's kind of makes me look a little bit more attractive, uhm?
And I mean if he doesn't like my fireplace, I don't know what to tell you Jordan, Uhm?
Oh yeah, so it's going to be at 9:00 PM, which oh right? The lighting will be a little different. Yeah, this so I might have to have it like behind me or or I could bring it up here. Yeah, I could bring it up right here. Yeah, do you mind bringing that lamp up here? This is great Sarah, you're so great tech guru.
He was like encouraging people. Like maybe you guys could have for professors that I'm going to be interviewing. Like maybe you could like TuneIn from a library like your life like you don't have a library. And this better Siri you're so good at this.
Yeah hi everybody. So yeah we won't have this wonderful light, but it'll still be light enough I think yeah.
And if I really needed more.
I could bring that I'm closer, but I think we're fine, um?
OK, good, now I just need to give your granddaughter Check 'cause it's April 1st and I was like I'll drop it up your house soon but.
And that was when I thought I was going to campus, yeah?
Yeah, but today like yes.
Even catch it today. Yeah, how's it or whatever, right?
OK, so real quick, I just gotta tell you.
So yes, I'm gonna practice like this.
I am sorry but I just had a phone meeting come up for work and I need to be on this web and R for the next hour period. Would it be alright with you if I drop off your check to you tomorrow? Question mark.
I appreciate your prayers period. There are 100 people attending and I'm in charge and I am not fully prepared, period.
Thanks Jordan as Jordan said.
As Jordan said, my name is Catherine thicker. I am an alarm of Holy Cross College and.
Can you hear me and see me?
I can hear and see you, yes?
Well, I I thought I dress up at least the top half of me. I'll admit to that.
You're ready to put on a show.
Yeah, I'm trying and I'm looking at my lighting. I'm thinking that glare behind me is not good. Like right here.
I'm wondering if you can bring any light in front of you or closer to your face like.
I can't, it's it is in front of me, so this is.
Oh no no no. Yeah, you're right, I wanted without further away yeah, OK.
I should turn off the one behind me though, huh? Let me see.
Or can you pull it on the floor closer so that it I mean.
Oh yeah, that was that looks bad too.
OK, so here's a Cup. This light in front of me it's so bright it's like not natural or something.
Yeah, it looks like you gotta.
I know it's not everyone's favorite, but could you try the fluorescent lights?
Yeah, let me do that. So should I turn this one-off you think?
Oh please, just here too OK?
You're actually in the in your office 2.
I came to my office 'cause I did. My home background is like I've got nothing in the background at home and I figured my office was a little prettier.
Yeah, why we turn it off.
I think that's a lot better.
So no light like, so here's the light again.
I can go. It has like settings for.
Yeah, you could turn the light in front, yeah?
I'm alright, how are you?
Hey I I made those two changes that you had asked the slides three and four.
I just wanna make sure you're able to see that.
Wait, is it, uh, do you mean should I be able to see it right now on the slides?
You should be able to control slides.
Everyone's everyone's looking so good.
Awesome, thanks Jordan. I like it.
How is how is my audio video looking to everybody?
Been here all day, so they're not my studio.
Catherine, is there a way to lower your camera little bit meaning like or raise you?
Is your camera looks like it's more above your head then everybody else is. I don't know if there's a way to.
Hang on by, sit on a pillow is why I mean.
So as everyone can see, the very first slide here says Holy Cross live will begin shortly. So after we go live, I might. I think I'm going to wait about one full minute. Um, because people are getting to their Inboxes, then their emails, and it will take. So I suspect within the first few minutes, most of our guests might still be kind of fumbling around. Oh, it's 9:00 o'clock. We gotta jump on so.
Um, so for at least a minute, so don't don't be worried when we go live and I'm not there. I'll be jumping in um, after I see that number kind of level out as the guest start tuning in and the other, uh, another thing. I was wondering if we could think about just being a little bit more strategic is Catherine.
Some point you know I'll introduce you when I when I say you know you'll know when your Q Is it come join and then I'll go. I'll go, I'll say Hey Goodbye you know, see you then at the end of the show. Uhm I was wondering if we could think through Holidays that we bring the other four on or that it's maybe just a little bit more smooth so maybe I don't know if you wanted to just say at some point you give a queue saying I'm now going to allow our panelists to introduce themselves.
And then they start. Maybe they all just hit broadcasts and then whoever is there first you can say Oh Hey, a Doctor. Robichaud, let's uh, welcome to Tonight Show. Let's have you introduce yourself first.
What do you think, Catherine?
Sure, so so yeah. So I after you introduce.
Me and leave. I'm just going to say great. It's great to be here like um. And as Jordan said, how many missions counselor here? And I'm an alarm from Holy Cross and um here as we driving through the life of the mind in the core I have we have 4.
Fabulous professors here with us tonight, so, um.
I should ask them to, what do you think George say?
You could say I have. I have professors, Holy Cross Professors who are now going to join us or something like that.
And then they cannot. Just in case somebody is a little slower than somebody else to to Rebroadcast, we can start just going through introductions like whoever is there first. Catherine says, Oh, Hey, Professor Schomer
Welcome, uh, go ahead and introduce yourself to to our viewers tonight and then just you.
That's just like the name, an introduction for everybody. And then after that will ask them to share their educational background.
That can be they. I think they should just do it all at the same time.
So maybe just like it kind of like your elevator pitch where it's like. Hi, I'm so and so, um, I do this at Holy Cross College. My background includes this and I'm happy to be here tonight. And so does that sound. Kind of like what you expected.
People say, could you please introduce yourself and in that share your educational background?
Just so they feel free to take that. I don't know. Maybe doesn't matter, but yeah.
That makes sense. They all come on time.
Somebody, uhm, it does sound like somebody speaker might be just a little loud and I so, um, it should be loud enough that you can hear, of course. But I was hearing catherines feedback come through then somebody's microphone.
And actually quite a bit I'm out. I'm gonna turn mine down a little bit too.
Michael Griffin
08:53:54 PM
You all look great!
As long as you can still hear everybody we don't want you to not be able to hear. But anytime we can prevent that feedback. Hey Mike.
You don't need to see that.
You don't see it slide underneath you.
Terron Phillips
08:54:22 PM
Hey everyone!
What is? What's everyone else doing?
I've got the big Holy Cross live slide right below.
Michael Griffin
08:54:31 PM
Looks a-ok to me
Yeah, do you know what? Maybe, um?
Close this tab altogether and then press that control button one more time.
Michael Griffin
08:55:09 PM
Sound is good too!
Maria, I talked to Gabriana today and I I made sure she was coming. I was like your sister in laws could be live, you know and she's like yeah I'll be there.
I love you, told her about it, but I figured I could give you a shameless plug.
Thanks no, I we didn't talk about it today, but um, I think John's on the phone with them downstairs so.
Jordan, are we all looking alright from your end and sounding OK?
I think so. An actually just so everyone knows my intro I got 4 minutes here for my intro. I actually did a.
I did some pretty large font and hopefully doesn't look like I'm reading, but I'm going to be reading off of A.
So hopefully doesn't look like I'm looking down at the screen too much, but I did plan a little bit of a, I guess a script to make sure we begin as smoothly as possible.
We could never be a big social after this, right?
I'm looking forward to, it's been awhile.
Michael Griffin
08:56:32 PM
Virtual Happy Hour!!!
It's not drinking alone if you wanna video chat while you're drinking.
I've got. I've got my favorite treat tonight and that's a diet. Doctor pepper.
Some fizzy water. They've New England ized mean I'm drinking seltzer now.
Need to get back in the West.
Super important, yeah we should just.
Have another meeting after this. It starts at like 10 and we can all have our celebratory drinks just as just the HTC staff and faculty.
What would our what would our kids think if they saw that?
They feel like I wanna join them I wanna go I'm in.
Well, probably good. You don't have a doctor lutes doing this because he has a you know a bar at the bottom of one of his shelf so.
I know in his office, yeah.
I'm looking forward to it.
Oh yeah, oh, actually where the tulips are behind Maine? That's usually a tray of liquor and I just have to take it out at least broadcasts, but then then it's a really empty shell, so I just put some Flowers up there.
Alright, so um, I'm going to.
I think what will do now is uhm.
Well, good luck everybody, I will. I will see all of you at the very end. So reminder at about halfway through, uh, that's when Catherine turns to kind of the Q&A will be reading through some of the questions in the chat to be giving to everybody at about 9:35 AM is when I'm going to pop in and um, kind of close things down. Give some reminders by other resources on our website an invite families to tune in to our next episode so.
Um, go ahead and hit your broadcast video button. I'm gonna do the same 'cause we're gonna leave this. You should still be able to hear once you do so, so make sure you're still. Net control room and then will let this slide sit here and about one minute into our live broadcast. I'll jump in. See you later.

Here at Holy Cross the Congregation of Holy Cross has been here in South Bend and Notre Dame for over 175 years, educating the hearts and minds of young men and women and Holy Cross College is proud to be a part of that tradition. Hi doctor robisch odd. Hello well would you start us out by just introducing yourself and sharing a little bit about your educational background.
Gabriana Schommer
09:06:05 PM
Hello!
Sure, I'd be happy to. Hello everyone. I am doctor rod Ruby shot. I am the division share of natural science and mathematics. Here I totally across college my educational background. I earned my bachelors of Science degree at Syracuse University, an environmental force biology. I then moved on to earn my Masters at the University of Georgia, Athens and forced biotechnology.
Ben Gale
09:06:21 PM
Hello!
Then, uh, up to Purdue University, where earned my pH. D and population genetics of Forestry an. Then I spent some time as a researcher at a postdoc at Notre Dame, followed by a one year stint at Saint Mary's as a visiting assistant professor, and eventually somehow ended up here.
Yes, thank you, right? OK, UM Professor Shomer, could you share a bit about? Infuse yourself, please and then share about your educational background as well.
Sure, yeah, I'm Maria shomer. I'm the director of common good initiatives and the assistant director of Campus Ministry at Holy Cross. I did my undergraduate studies at Notre Dame, where I focused in theology and psychology, and I went on from um from that program to the Master of Divinity program, a graduate program in theology at Notre Dame, and it was in the Master of Divinity program that I fell in love with the intersection of theology and medicine.
With questions of safety and health care. So after the Master of Divinity, I went to Duke University and studied in a program called the theology medison Ann Culture Initiative and it was from that program that I came to Holy Cross.
I've been here now for four years, working with students and I really love it a lot. My husband and I both really love life in South Bend so when you come to visit, if you need recommendations about where to get good food or where to go for a hike, let me know and we can. We can have a conversation about that.
Awesome, thank you and Professor Metoyer. Could you please introduce yourself as well?
Absolutely. Hi everyone, it's good to know that you're here with us. My name is Felicia Metoyer and I am the chair of the Education Department here at Holy Cross. So that's the Department where we teach teachers.
I received my undergraduate degree from UCLA and social psychology with a certification in diversified liberal arts, which put me on the path towards a teaching certificate in California.
After I graduated with that undergraduate degree, I was admitted to the teach for America program. It was in its infancy at the time, so I did two years post Baccalaureate service work through teach for America as a classroom teacher in Englewood, California. Actually, in the elementary school that I attended. So I taught alongside my own first grade teacher. What a ride. Then I.
Move to Atlanta, GA and within the context of teach for America and continued studies, I completed my Masters degree in elementary education with a certification as a reading and literacy specialist.
Annika Johnson
09:09:07 PM
Hi! I'm a senior from Valpo IN
And that was through teach for America and Mercer University Ann. I also like to mention that I did.
Andrew Marciano
09:09:14 PM
Hi Andrew - I am from Carlsbad CA - how about you?
The School of life. So I did 15 years of K through six teaching, and that's where I have to say I earned my most.
Precious degree that makes me the teacher I am today. So I taught rural urban sub urban Catholic schools and public schools, Atlanta, Los Angeles in Oregon. So I've kind of done it all and now I'm here in higher Ed here at Holy Cross, ready to teach the masses and have lots of budding teachers out there doing the work.
Awesome thank you Ann for introducing our last professor. I just want to give a little shout out. This is Professor Doctor John Biddle live from Cambridge, MA who is finishing up a post doc at Harvard and will be coming to us this fall as a professor of physics. So we especially want to.
Welcome part of this title is what's new and one thing that's new is doctor Biddle. So welcome doctor Riddle and if you could please introduce yourself a little more formally that be great.
Thank you, yeah, I'm uh, John Biddle, I am dumb.
Andrew Packard
09:10:49 PM
Awesome, I am from San Jose.
As you've heard, I'm currently doing a postdoc at Harvard in the systems Biology Department. Most of my education prior to that was in physics. I was a did my undergraduate work at Notre Dame and was a physics major and a theology minor there. And then I got a Masters of Education from Notre Dame through the ace program, taught for two very happy years in Baton Rouge, LA.
And then I got a PhD in physics from the University of Maryland at College Park, and from there I I took the job that I have now post doc in the systems biology Department at Harvard. And now I'm really looking forward to joining the faculty Holy Cross.
Great thank you. Thank you all for being here. Our panelists, and before we get into questions of our panelists, I'm going to share some about our core curriculum and about the big picture mission of Holy Cross College. And then we'll move on to some questions of our panelists.
And so there's some simple slide you can follow along if that's helpful for you.
Patrick Sullivan
09:11:49 PM
Rensselaer NY here
The mission of Holy Cross College is educating, informing global citizens with the competence to see in the courage to act. So this is a really powerful impact statement. I just want to unpack it a little bit to share about the heart of Holy Cross College so.
Andrew Marciano
09:12:09 PM
That's cool Andrew - small world
Most people probably think of a college educating students for sure, and so we want to do that for sure. But In addition to that, we want to form our students to be as our mission says, globally minded citizens with a competent to see and the courage to act for the common good. So what this means is that we want our students to grow in knowledge of the truth. But along with that we want to give our students opportunities to apply this knowledge and be courageous members of our society for the sake of the common good. So that's incorporated within our curriculum. So this whole.
We want to educate and empower students and form them to be.
Agents of using their education to benefit the world. So that's one Holy Cross College is about, and that looks like becoming.
Andrew Floerchinger
09:12:45 PM
I'm a little late but hey guys I'm from Elkhart, Indiana

Scholars, citizens, leaders and disciples for the common good. So our big goal is for this to happen and you might be like, OK, Catherine, you're just saying a bunch of big words. What do you mean? And so I want it, just bring it back to how it starts is through our liberal arts education. So at the core is our liberal arts education, Anna liberal arts education is one that covers a wide range of topics, from arts and Humanities to social Sciences and natural Sciences. So at Holy Cross College.
Andrew Plas
09:13:40 PM
hi :)
Every student has that liberal arts core an arc or is particularly unique at Holy Cross 'cause we also add in some like global perspectives and other things that I'll get to here shortly. But so at the core of our education, everyone receives a liberal arts education and then the particular degree of your choice would be In addition to that. So I'm going to at this point go through scholar, citizen leader and disciple and share about how we help you become that at Holy Cross College.
Patrick Sullivan
09:13:52 PM
Hey John right up the street
So our students become scholars through courses, in writing and rhetoric, literature, social and behavioral Sciences, mathematics, and natural Sciences. So all of our students are educated in this way. In addition to that, core students to have their particular degree of their choice. So here's a list of our for our traditional four year degrees.
I'll just let you look at over an and as you can see there are degrees from the natural Sciences, from social Sciences, from Humanities and the arts, so you could choose to Excel in one of these four year degrees. I also want to share a slide of our available miners. You could add this minor to your degree as well.
And if you don't see in these two slides about majors and minors, if you don't see something you're looking for, you can ask a question about that. We don't lose heart if you don't see the major of your ideal choice, because we might be able to help you in your academic pathway at Holy Cross, even if it's not listed up here.
I also want to highlight we have three year accelerated degree programs in business, English, liberal studies, psychology and theology, and this is a great opportunity for those who are highly motivated individuals who want to cruise through college and do it in three years and then maybe move on to start working or move on to a Masters degree. And also you can save money by moving by doing College in three years instead of four. So that's an opportunity we offer at Holy Cross College and graduate degree programs.
We do have graduate degree partnerships across the Tri Campus. As Jordan mentioned, we're right across street from the University of Notre Dame and right down the road from Saint Mary's College and we are part of a try campus with those schools. And so we have partnerships for Masters degrees with Notre Dame in Saint Mary's and just a little shout if you want to learn more about the try campus and all that involvement, we will have a webinar specifically devoted to the tracking presenting image. Coming up in about a week or so so.
Hope you enjoy that one too.
Now I'm going to talk a little bit about how our students become citizens, so our students become globally minded citizens through our unique global perspectives courses as well as history and economic courses.
Jordan Schank
09:16:23 PM
Stick around... we are going to give away four $50 gift cards at the end of the show!
We have opportunities to study abroad for a semester in England, Ireland, Italy in Poland and we have these really unique global immersion trips where you would go for my two to three weeks to India, Peru or Uganda with your classmates and stay with the brothers of Holy Cross and have a very unique experience there. Where the brothers are running secondary schools.
Next, I want I'll share about leader so our students become leaders through our common good practicum which I will ask Professor Shomer to share more about that.
And our professional interject so every student has a professional internship experience before graduating.
Patrick Sullivan
09:16:44 PM
Overseas semester outstanding
Also, our senior capstone is a course for all seniors and incorporated in that course is a professional capstone presentation sharing about the students journey through their academics and what's next for them.
I also want to highlight that our campus life has a lot of opportunities to grow as a leader, especially because we are a small college. There's a lot of opportunities to be a leader in student government. In campus clubs, dorm life, campus ministries, and more.
Michael Griffin
09:17:12 PM
Holy Cross is one of the top ranked schools with internships.
And finally I want to highlight how are students become disciples disciples of Christ for the common good, and that would be through studying theology, philosophy, and ethics. Those are all required course at Holy Cross and you can dive into starting the truth and think about how that relates to your life and how you might be called to grow in your faith.
Jordan Schank
09:17:46 PM
We are going to move to Q&A soon. What questions do you have?
Faith is the last point I put on. He ran through our campus ministries. There's a lot of opportunities to grow in faith, whether that's on campus, ministry retreats or pilgrimages, or opportunities for prayer and worship and fellowship. and I would just like to say, as a Holy Cross Ulom as a student and now as an employee of the college, I grow in my faith through all the wonderful people I work around, the professors and the staff. There's a lot of strong Christians there that call me on to grow in my faith.
So it's a great environment. So In summary, Holy Cross College is dedicated to helping students become scholars, citizens, leaders and disciples for the common good. And at this point I want to turn over to our panelists and ask them some questions. So first of all, I want to turn to doctor professor show more interest, ask. Could you share with us about the common good initiative and what that is?
Sure, yeah, thanks so much for that Catherine. So you have already heard about the mission of Holy Cross College, which is to educate, inform global citizens with the competence to see in the courage to act for the common good. So one of the core classes that all of our students get to take is called the common good practicum and seminar, and I'm really grateful to get to direct that program.
Ryan Dougherty
09:19:03 PM
Do you have to pick a major and start classes on it in the first year?
The Carnival Practicum in seminar is usually taken in the sophomore year, although some folks take it a little bit later. Another ticket is firstly students, even in its centered around three key questions. One, what is the common good, particularly in light of the Catholic intellectual tradition and Catholic social teaching? What is the common good?
What are obstacles to the common good in face in our world today?
How can we put our particular gifts and skills and passions at the service of common good?
We approach these three questions.
Andrew Plas
09:19:31 PM
do you have a pre-med program?
Sal Vasta
09:19:33 PM
What are options for a potential Computer Scientist in terms of majors and minors?
Two primary ways. The first is a practicum component, so would spends 2 1/2 hours each week. Somewhere in South Bend, focusing on community engagement. So some students might be working in tutoring and literacy with kids from our neighborhoods. Around here, some people might be in health care settings, an memory care units are in nursing home facilities, others might be working with young people at the Juvenile Justice Center. Other things are engaged in.
Community farming and agriculture in the in the South Bend.
Tuna half hours at a site placement like this.
Usually with one or two of your of your classmates along with you.
Michael Griffin
09:20:33 PM
Andrew, you'll hear more about our Bio degree, which certainly can include pre-med in some cases. We also have students who move to ND for the pre-med focus.
And then everybody you get together around a seminar table. Usually about 12 people in a seminar with one professor and you get the study. These key questions, one of the common good. How do we think about our responsibility to our communities in light of some of the great witnesses and exemplars of our faith and of the world?
Um, so that's one thing that I really love about the common good seminar when I'm listening, but usually a small group again to highlight it. It Holy Cross we are able to build really strong relationships between professors and students because of how small we are. We sit around the seminar table, kind of dig into these big questions about our communities and our responsibility to contribute to the communities. What are particular? Get some skills and passions are how we can put those at the service of the world. And that's one reason I really love.
Teaching at Holy Cross as I get the opportunity to know my students to walk alongside them. In exploring these really critical questions in our world today.
Thank you, thank you so much and you mentioned that student professor rate relationship being really unique at Holy Cross and I'm wondering, doctor robot, would you be able to speak to that the student professor relationship?
Michael Griffin
09:21:53 PM
Sal, computer science is one area where we intend to grow, but now we prepare computer science majors for transfer
Yeah, I'd be happy to appreciate the opportunity to do so. I will say that when I'm given the opportunity to talk about a subject matter for me to put things in order, I have to start writing it down on paper. And when I was given this opportunity of three words came up. The three CS as I called him, community connectivity and caring.

Hello, Good to join in!
It wasn't too long ago during an award ceremony where are graduating senior a stated that one of his fondest memories about being here at Holy Cross was the sense of community and it wasn't just for the community between students and students, but also between students and faculty. And he said that he actually has acquired friendship with some of his professors here during his short time.

Where can I find the mens club lacrosse team website?
As the Holy Cross student and part of that comes with the fact that you've heard it already that we are small college, we have a small campus. Not only do you see us in the classroom, but you will also see his walking down the Hall catching a coffee at Abbe brew, maybe lunch in the cafeteria, or definitely worshipping an the Chapel and all of that leads to a certain level of connectivity and that connectivity starts with in the classroom.

09:23:12 PM
I have taken 8 college classes (though Syracuse University and my local community college) as a high school senior. How likely is Holy Cross to accept them?
Elenna Gonzalez
09:23:14 PM
How flexible is class scheduling for those w/ full time jobs?
Exercises here small. You've heard that already and it doesn't take very long for the students to get to know the professor, and vice versa for the professors to get to know the students. One of the things that I try to do for my first year students to help them transition from high school students into college students is to get them to know me better. So ioffer a five or five where all the students have to do is come down, find my office, talk to me for five minutes about anything and everything.
Edward Hamburger
09:23:21 PM
Is there a possibility of taking political science as a major this fall?
Anne, I will give them a 5% bonus on the first exam. What that does is give me the opportunity to get to know them and for them to get to know me.

It's a also an opportunity for them to find out where I'm at, so if they do have problems or difficulties in the classroom, they know where to find me, and they also learn real quickly that if they just want to talk, be it's the classroom or something you know what's going on on campus. Notre Dame football, which I'm always willing to talk about. They can certainly always find me here. I have an open door policy and that leads us to the fact that faculty care.
Yanni Vu
09:24:11 PM
I have the same question as David
Uh, the faculty care about this class of our students. That's how we're judged. We are successful when our students are successful. We have a vested interest, an seeing, or helping those high school graduates come into Holy Cross and transition into a college student who becomes in a very short period of time. Young professionals ready to take on the world. And that's the relationship that you get here at Holy Cross.
Wow, thank you, thank you. That's awesome um. Especially like that five for five. I could have used that in some of my classes, right? So, Professor Metoyer, I'm wondering if you could share some about what drew you to Holy Cross College.
So in order to to get to that point, I'd like to start a little bit about my.
Entrance into the teaching profession altogether because it's very related. So meet personally as an undergraduate. It became clear to me early on that I was called to teach and I think that that is with a very important part of my personal formation.
And then I enter teaching through the teeth for America program, which is a service oriented organization that was modeled.
After the peace core and so thinking about teaching as an one of the ultimate acts of service in a lot of Ways and a lot of the duties that teachers have, it becomes very clear that that would be the nature of teaching so teaching.
Michael Griffin
09:25:46 PM
Lots of great questions. If we can't answer all, know that we give every person who submits a question a personal email answer if we can't get to it on tonight's show.

09:26:21 PM
I have the same question as Edward
Students are transformed through our schools that there's the potential for that. Communities can be transformed through schools as institutions and in that way teachers work for the common good. An when I was looking at when we moved to South Bend from the Los Angeles area, we have several institutions that offer teaching degrees in our area. But what drew me to Holy Cross in a very specific?
Was this the connection that I, the personal connection that I had to the powerful elements of our mission statement as it related to?
Teachers really really need to be able to.
Teeth in a transformation away.
Cece Damilano
09:27:15 PM
I would also like to know about the options for Forensic Psychology, Criminology, or Criminal Justice.
Gabriela Betanzos
09:27:17 PM
I have the same question as Andrew about the core curriculum for Driscoll.
In order to have that deep impact that we want to have on students, and most of it for most teachers, that's why we get. That's why we go into it, because we want to have impact on the youth and on the future, and that's what's driven us in that service aspect. Well, in order to have a transformation of impact, teachers have to 1st have the competency to see where in equities lie for our students. And we're in equities exists in society and in our various institutions.
That our students engaged in on a regular basis.
As we start to see in that competent weigh per our mission statement, then as teachers, we can move into this courageous action through our profession of teaching. So we start to build in our program here at Holy Cross.
Bri Bentley
09:28:06 PM
I have 8 Spanish credits with Ivy Tech would they transfer over if I decide to minor in Spanish
The ability to pinpoint where we can make a difference in in their subtle ways and sometimes very obvious ways. But that is for me a big part of why I totally crossed because again, in order to be a transformation, a teacher, you have to be able to see a lot of the nuances that create barriers for students to learning and success. And then there's some courage there in terms of acting there. There are a lot of ways that teachers.
Courageously walking to their classroom every day and create opportunities for students and families and communities.
I think that that mission was my ultimate connection too.
Making the decision to go to Holy Cross and that.
John Brown
09:28:51 PM
Hi Gabriela and Andrew, I have the same question as well.
I think that really just sums it up. I even still now I use that as my guiding principle when I create lesson plans with my higher education students and then I form our student in the Education Department to think about the work that they do and the way that they serve in their classrooms.
The common good that Maria talked about earlier and.
Have a sense of pride around that, because there's a lot of red area around teaching right now and.
It is really, really prideful work, and once you get into it, there's no denying it, and so we were ready to go.
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much Ann. Dr Bittel, could you share with us? I mean, you're at Harvard right now. What attracted you to Holy Cross College?
Well, I visited holy, crossed and.
A few things that really stood out. Um, one was the focus on undergraduate education. I really wanted to be in a place where I could focus on my teaching.
And that wouldn't be seen as a distraction from something else that the institution really wanted me to focus on.
Really emphasized a second thing that I didn't.
Necessarily think about going into the visit, but they really struck me was how cheerful and happy and generally pleasant the students seemed.
I thought that would be. It would be really fun to teach students who were that.
Happy to be there in that pleasant to interact with and I would love to be part of creating the environment that seem to be doing that for them. And then another thing was that holy crosses of place that takes its Catholic identity very seriously takes its.
Mission in that sense very seriously, and it it seemed to really be a place where people.
Given the opportunity and supported in in um becoming better Christians, and I thought that was really worthwhile thing to be part of.
Zacchaeus Greene
09:31:19 PM
What are the secondary education options
And then the 4th is probably the favorite. My favorite thing about my current job is that there is a program that allows me to do research with undergraduates, and I've really enjoyed resource research, mentorship, undergraduates, and Holy Cross. I know also very much encourages that, and so it seemed for all those reasons like a very really good place to work.
Awesome, great thank you. Thank you all so much this is.
Luke Schloemer
09:31:29 PM

What would be some great minors for an elementary education major
Emily Corona Galindo
09:31:38 PM
What are the opportunities at holy cross for neuroscience majors, research, and community outreach?
I know Patrick Sullivan was asking about as a business major. Can I take classes at the Mendoza Business School in order Dame and?
The answer is yes, you can take classes at across the street in order Dame. One class per semester. After you have 30 credit hours and you can.
Take those as a Holy Cross student for the same tuition is Holy Cross.
Same car situation, but uhm.
Yes, so that's Patrick. Sorry I'm distracted. He I'm not doing a great job at this, but uhm.
We also have questions about political science as a major for this fall.
Doctor, Professor, Summer do you?
Connect the political science Department at all no.
I mean we have courses for political science. I can flip back to this.
We have a political studies minor which is a little different, but we definitely have classes for the political science fields us for this for Edward and you could start taking those coming this fall. In answer to your question.
Ivan Miranda
09:33:03 PM
What makes the Holy Cross Theology program different from the other universities Theology Program?
OK, and I also want to honor that we have what's new on the title. So one thing that's exciting and new Doctor robot could you share with us. We have 3 tracks going now under our biology majors. Could you share with us about those three?
Yeah, when I was hired a three years or so ago, I was hired to do a couple different things, build the biology curriculum and help to build a biology program. It's relatively new program, which is really kind of exciting. Not often do you get to be on the foundation of a program in a college or University, so this is a really unique opportunity for me professionally. One of the things I became quite evident when I came here is that we cannot be Notre Dame in now. Or could we be? St Mary's.
Michael Griffin
09:34:00 PM
Theology is very strong at Holy Cross - not only for majors but for all students. The professors are unique in making theology very real for students!
But that doesn't mean we can't have our very own niche. So, uh, myself and the rest of the of the National Science faculty have been working hard to try to develop, you know, are standing here in the Tri Campus area first and foremost, if you come here you will have a solid Anne Broad Biology Biology degree. We cover a pretty much Alpha to Omega. You will be exposed to all aspects of biology which is needed in this day.
I'm also happy to say that, uh, we are now able to prepare pre professionals on becoming physical therapists. We have all the necessary courses that they need to be able to get their cloud course is ready to be able to move on to the professional school afterwards. We are in the process and a very timely process that that soon to be offering a minor in public health. This is something that fits well with that niche idea, but also.
With the with the Catholic aspect of the college, so we will be soon offering this minor, and if we get a lot of student buy in that they really want not just the minor, but to move on to a bachelors degree, we're planning to become certified in the future to be able to offer that four year degree an hopefully tie in to the Masters and global health at Notre Dame across the street. It's kinda works.
Great thank you. Thank you for sharing that an professor show more. We have a question from Luke saying what other service opportunities like at Holy Cross College would you like to speak to that?
Michael Griffin
09:35:53 PM
And just to explain a bit more, all Holy Cross students who have earned 30 credits (including any from AP or their freshman year) and have a 3.0 can take a course a semester at Notre Dame for no extra cost.
Sure, yeah. Well there are a number of great ways to get involved in the community. Of course, there's the the core class, the common good practicamente seminar, but also I encourage you as much as I can to have them come in and speak to me. I've got a whole network of folks to are happy to talk with students about ways to get involved in South Bend. We all have a great partnership with Notre Dame Center for social concerns, so one great program we have available is the summer service learning.
Camille Taylor
09:36:04 PM
I have the same question as Luke.
Program where you spend 8 weeks somewhere in the United States doing direct service and communities while also taking three credit theology. Class through Notre Dame center social constraints. So that's one really great opportunity we have but basically come in and talk to me. Let me know about your interests and then we'll game. Plan together and figure out how you can get plugged into this often Peony.
Great thank you, thank you Maria.
Oh Jordan, are you here to cutoff our party Jordan?
Michael Griffin
09:36:53 PM
Remember, we will make sure every one of your questions is answered in the next couple of days!
Oh, that was uhm so enjoyable an I could tell you why I every time I participate in one of these Holy Cross lives even though we are a small campus and we enjoy the benefits of a small campus, there's always something new to learn about. So I'm very thankful for pan list tonight. And as I was watching the names come across our little chat box, I noticed particularly a lot of recently admitted students who have kind of been thrown upside down in this.
A college search process given the UM, given the current circumstances here in our nation where everyone is hunkered at home instead of visiting colleges and taking tours. So actually, since we have these amazing professors here with us, we have a great audience of potential future Saints at Holy Cross. So I think I'm going to start with will start with professor.
Michael Griffin
09:37:28 PM
and if you have others, feel free to reach out to us!
Dianne Barlas
09:37:31 PM
Ivan, I teach in the theology department. Our theology degree focuses on three areas: new evangeliztion, catechesis and what we call the "Gospel of Life" which is centered around Catholic Social Teaching. We have just added a Theological Practicum which allows students to put their theological studies into practice in our community
Moran, then, uh, we'll kind of go down the row, and if you have like 30 seconds of it's going to be hard to ask professor to only speak for 30 seconds seconds. What one piece of advice would you give to a high school senior who's thinking about joining us here at Holy Cross within the try campus community at Notre Dame? So, professor shomer we begin.
Yeah I would. I would ask myself or I would ask you to ask yourself.
What type of community do you see yourself flourishing in, um?
What type of environment do you want to be surrounded by an? Is it one that is going to be asking these big questions about life and faith in our responsibility to the community?
If you could say, yeah, that's something that I long for an I longed for relationships mentoring relationships with professors and others as well as relationships with my peers. Where I'm going to be developing my own kind of answers or maybe further questions to some of those that I would say that I would say Notre Dame Indiana is the place for you.
Yeah, I would be happy to talk more with any of you about those as you're holding these questions.
Yeah, I would agree with that.
Ivan Miranda
09:38:50 PM
Thank You for the enlightening information!
Thought you, uh, doctor Bittel if you if you want to, um, entice some of these students to be in your classrooms this fall, what would you say to them?
Think about the kind of person that you want to be at the end of four years.
And see if you see people like that at the college. And if you see.
An environment that's going to help you become that person.
Yeah, that's great and it must be very telling that you are. This is a homecoming for you. You are coming back to Notre Dame, Indiana place that formed you as a young student and now you have been able to be given the opportunity now to come back through the Holy Cross in form.
Let's chat now to Professor Metoyer.
Sophia Di Piazza
09:40:09 PM
is there anything that is like a bio-ethics program?
Great and then the last piece of advice from you Doctor Robichon.
Sure, you know one of the things that that always comes to mind when I think about wanting to entice students to come here is that you get the best of everything. You have a small community here at Holy Cross where you will within by the end of the first master. Definitely by the end of the first year have.
Uh, acquired some of the best friendships that will stay with you for the rest of your life, but we also are associated with two other amazing colleges, college and University. You get to experience that aspect to you. Get to go to the Notre Dame football games and to one of my guilty pleasures. Notre Dame hockey.
Michael Griffin
09:41:40 PM
Yes, Sophia, we have a great bio-ethics course - and if you add a second major to your Bio degree (Theo or Liberal Studies would be perfect) you can explore that even more... plus with amazing courses on that at ND.
Outstanding standing a team and but we are still part of the community, but we are all Holy Cross and when students leave here they leave with a sense of friendship and connectivity that is really very very special.
Yeah, that that is so true it is. I've been here a part of that. Try campus now for 14 years and it's truly a wonderful place where students can find a way to hone their talents, discover their passions and find. Find ways to use them to grow in them and share them with others. Whether that's on our campus or utilizing.
Uh, the great resources are clubs in classrooms across the Tri campers as well, so we always like to say, hey, you've got really the best of many experiences here. Small classroom, personal experience. Your professors are going to know your name and see you across campus and know you and see you by your name, but then also the opportunities of a major research University directly across the street from us so we have come. We could talk to talk about.
Dan Harper
09:42:44 PM

09:42:57 PM
Thanks, everyone!
These topics and answer a lot more questions, probably for another hour, but we have come to the end of Tonight's broadcasts. But we do keep track of all of the questions that are posed here. And because you signed up using your email address within the next day or so, we're going to get back to. We want to make sure everyone gets their questions answered, and maybe we can share some links with you. I also want to remind everyone that we have six more episodes of Holy Cross live here in April.
Ryan Dougherty
09:43:08 PM
Thank you very much!
The next you'll be spending actually some time with me in director as director of enrollment. I do help students understand the financial aid process and some of their resources. So this Sunday at 7:00 o'clock PM. So that's April 5th at 7:00 o'clock PM Eastern Time. We're going to have what's called financial aid and student accounts. 101 so come. And whether you are maybe even a sophomore, junior in high school, or if you've been recently admitted and you have a financial notification in front of you, regardless of where you are.
Michael Griffin
09:43:48 PM
So if you have, say, 4 or 5 AP courses from high school, then after the first semester, you're eligible and could take an ND course second semester freshmen year.
Uh, we want to teach you about the financial aid process. Some of the terminology, the difference between loans, so that you feel very confident going into Holy Cross college that you are making an affordable decision, but also that you understand all of the resources available to you and the next week we have another panel where we're going to be discussing what we're calling, bursting the bubble. So talking about how we have our students leave our campus almost immediately after they get to our campus so.
Aaron Harper
09:44:19 PM
thank you very much for the information!
Leilani Jeffery
09:44:29 PM
Thank you! Good information about the college!
In many instances, you're going to hear about college experiences where a college campus kind of becomes a bubble unto itself, or there's a little bit of a divide between what is happening on a campus and then just what happens. Maybe a few blocks away from that campus, and maybe even the challenges and issues of the greater world and at Holy Cross, we turned our students chords are community in towards our global community to see what issues and problems and challenges there are and how we can.
Michael Griffin
09:44:41 PM
Remember, the raffle is coming in a few moments!
Uh, grow by our understanding, but also how we can solve many of these issues through the lens of Catholic social teaching. So we're going to talk about those opportunities and our study abroad opportunities as well next Tuesday and then a reminder that there are tons of resources on our website. Hcc.nd.edu/admissions, where you can register for future Holy Cross live events. You can sign up for a virtual one on one meeting with an admissions counselor.
Annette Romans
09:45:24 PM
Cara, I teach in the Education department with Prof. Metoyer, and would like to answer your question. Many Elem. Educ. majors do choose a minor as well. Psychology and Art are popular, but you might also choose Sports leadership. We can send you additional information about all our minor programs.

09:45:37 PM
Thank you all for your time!
And if you would like a personal phone call discussing financial aid opportunities. You can register for that there so tons of resources at hcc-nd.edu/admissions and now we've come to what everybody has been waiting for while the panelists were discussing and we were going through the presentation with Catherine I ran a random number generator to select four winners.
For tonight's gift cards, uh, so are winners include Salvatore Vasta.
Camille Taylor
09:45:58 PM
How does Holy Cross help with financial aid?
Decklyn Leahy an Annabelle Rives. If I have chosen you as a winner later this evening, check your email. You will find a code for a $50 digital gift card to the restaurant or coffee shop of your choice. So that brings us to the end of another great episode of Holy Cross live. Always excited to see so much enerji I saw that we had students from California to New York and everywhere in between.

God bless all... how about some good thanks for the profs!
Um, until next time stay safe, stay at home. Um and good luck, especially to our seniors who are finishing up their classes, most likely doing some online learning. Some challenging times would know that you are in our prayers and we're really are thinking about all of you as we all navigate these challenging times together. So thank you, Catherine. Thank you to our panelists. Let's go ahead and just give a wave goodbye to all of our viewers. An will see some of you on Sunday and hopefully many of you next week as well.
Thank you, have a good night.
