I'm alright, how are you?
Yeah, I went home for a little bit, uhm.
Yeah, so I wasn't here all day.
To elevate my computer a little bit.
I see that a Claire registered. She'll be tuning in tonight.
Hopefully she throw some softball questions at me and make me look good.
Yes, I want you to look at my setup really work real quick here, let's see.
I'll be, I'll be I just wanted you guys know I am here I will be back in like 3 minutes.
My computer is on the stack of books.
So we have quite a delicate, so that's perfect. There we go.
So it looks like there's an earthquake going on over there. It's 'cause your your laptop fell over.
Yeah, I'm trying to organize everything here.
Review the questions, let's see.
It's gonna there gonna be simple questions. I think the hardest question.
Will probably be how is being a Catholic influence or inspire the curriculum in the classroom and campus life.
I like how what makes us different.
From other colleges in regards to like the curriculum in the classroom and the campus life fan.
Oh no, what's the vibe from the teachers and the students?
Not my area of expertise, unfortunately.
You are did you return the Saints and scholars?
OK, you did participate in the special Unicorn, right?
Am I ask you on like to share your thoughts on that?
Yeah, I also have, uh, some good experience with a dry campus too. And kind of if that comes up let me know.
I'm gonna ask the first thing I'm gonna ask is I'm going to talk to Andrew directly and I ask him like where all the ways you can get involved in the faith life at Holy Cross in the Tri Campus. And then after he answers that then right into like describe your time, you appreciated the faith opportunities presented at Holy Cross date and then you just
I was, I wish Andrew was here already 'cause he might have and maybe he plans on already doing this and I mentioned it again. He would be really good to kind of.
Just let him talk a little bit about what he thinks I mean to really just answer the question that our topic poses like.
What is the role of a Catholic College in the modern world? And he might be able to speak quite fluently on that of why we need Catholic colleges when there are great secular schools an and why it is that a Catholic College.
Um, Katherine wants to know she can use the chat. Catherine anything that you put in the chat box will be seen by our viewers before they or after they? TuneIn, so if you wanted to drop in some notes for our viewers as they start tuning in, they'll be able to see it. She just texted Maine also were at 10 minutes. I am. I am just so. I mean I am concerned I get nervous when.
Where are my people want?
Outlook, I'll text people too.
I love the map, I really do. It's so worldly.
Alright, how are you still her name Mark, Kaylie, Kaylie?
In my case, I think how she.
Yeah, I'm having installed in my phone.
So you think I should come? That would actually be good like finish question like Hey Andrew, why do you? Why do you think we need Catholic colleges in a modern world like today?
Yeah well like yeah what is? What is the role of a Catholic college? But I'd say.
What is the role? Because it was a role of a Catholic college.
I am wearing shorts just.
This has been my like go to every day.
Scared, that's actually the best part about working at home is being able to wear whatever you want.
I love those windows by new Jordan. Pretty awesome.
Thank you yeah, I thought I would uhm change up the view a little bit. Yeah this was overlooking the River downtown, South Bend.
OK, we got 9 minutes and we need more people here.
They're not here, making me a little nervous.
Now be right. We have a Dave and Jordan here we can.
Who would you rather show?
We could not get out of Park.
In time I can talk about nothing for a long time.
I'll be a good closing question. What is the role of a Catholic College in a modern?
Yeah you should. You should just point that yeah, you give that to Andrew like right away like this is for you.
Catherine says that she needs to jump in. She will so will give these.
We've got 7 minutes. I'm sure they'll be here, but.
It does make me nervous because we've had people not be able to show up before last minute.
Yeah come on guys. Dang it.
I got response from Andrew is on his way.
We just blew up Michaela's phone.
Does that is that close enough or do you need to try to get my computer closer?
No, it looks. It looks a lot better. Um michaely. The only thing and I don't know if this would be possible. The screen reflects a lot off your glasses.
What would you? Oh, that's better? I don't know what you did.
Better I turn down my brightness.
We couldn't see like we couldn't see your face 'cause the we could. We could read your screen.
Add doctor Griffin in here in the house.
123456789 ten 11 bucks my computer is stacked on right now.
Are they school textbooks you're stacked on?
I'm texting Jeremy right now.
It's actually 10 books in a puddle, uhm?
It's I have National Geographic volumes that collected stories of Wallace Stegner on who it is.
Lord of the Rings, Milton Friedman on freedom.
I'm texting Tammy, she is on her way.
Trying to get my air pods work for this.
Hi Andrew, I think I'm I'm gonna add another question for you. Do you think you'll be able to talk about what is the role of a Catholic College in the modern world?
No, yes, I probably I can try to do.
I mean, that's kind of like the the topic overall is, you know.
Jordan, I love those windows.
Does windows are awesome?
This is, uh, this is this is downtown South Bend right here. Hold on.
Oh yeah, no. I was gonna ask and then you have like a ladder? Is that to aloft?
That's how Santa gets here.
It didn't know it is not. It is not to aloft, it is purely decorative, but it is a 14 foot ladder that I got a um far like a flea market.
Do I have time to get a drink real quick?
Yeah, 'cause you're not gonna be in at the beginning. So actually your video seems to work. Your sound seems to work so you can actually hit your broadcast video button. Go into the.
And you guys can hear me with the air pods on, right?
Yeah, if you speak loudly.
Or David go, where is everyone going?
Is there in the green room where there supposed to be?
Well you know. Oh OK, you know. I mean, I'm just waiting waiting.
Oh, Jamie's text in Maine. Let's see.
Hold on, let me get 2 minutes. I can do this. Had to do it before.
Do you need me to reset your password? Question Mark.
OK, hold on um, let's see keep me keep me posted on time.
All those movies about like detonating bombs and things and like pressure, this Is It.
Alright, calling you and I let's go backstage.
You have your control slides on right.
Like button is green control slides.
OK, Alright then will just leave it on this slide.
OK, can you see if I change it?
Alright, see in the back.

Thanks, Jordan. Well welcome everyone. My name is Andrew Willett and I am privileged to be the director of Campus Ministry at Holy Cross. I do have a couple hats at the college because not only am I the director of Campus Ministry, I also direct are Saints and Scholars. High School Summer Theology Institute Ann. I'm also an adjunct professor in the Theology Department. I originally hail from Indianapolis IN and graduated.
With my bachelors in philosophy and theology and my Masters in theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio, and I have a beautiful wife, Mary, we're going to come up on three years of marriage and we have a daughter who turned 2 on Easter. Rosemary Ann Lewis is 3 months now.
So that's just a brief introduction to me, but I'm just very happy to be here.
Awesome is that my cue my next in the line here.
I think you're up. Yeah, I think you have.
All right, we can see your card.
OK, I will have my computer froze up.
OK, you had you had a clone for a second, but you got rid of it?
Yeah, I had o'clock. I just had of course I had the immediate technical difficulties, but I am the other cohost. I'm calling back up. I mean the missions counselor here. Sorry to jump ahead. You David.
I also attended here as a student in 2014, 2015 uhm.
Cheryl Ladd, already his introduction. So let's start with our student panelists Dave P. Please continue.
Yeah, a great to be here. I'm Dave Naper Kowski I'm. I'm originally from Bethlehem, PA. I'm a senior in Holy Cross so I'll be graduating shortly. We have our graduation actually is in September, which would be awesome.
I'm a business major with minors in theology and philosophy and really over the years at Holy Cross College I've kind of been involved in really anything you can be involved in. Student, government, athletics, you know, extracurricular clubs, campus Ministry. Of course, all sorts of stuff, so I'm going to hang out with you guys tonight.
OK so I'm Mikaela Clark. I'm from Fort Wayne IN. I'm currently a first year student here at Holy Cross an I'm studying theology with a minor in psychology.
And I am very involved in campus ministry on campus and I'm also in our liturgical choir. Anna couple extra curricular clubs here in there an next year. I'll be part of the student government.
And further record michaely is actually keeping charge of our time, so she's going to watch and make sure we don't go over time with all of her clocks in the background, so.
Hi everyone, my name is Jeremy and I am from the Congo originally, but I live here in South Bend for like 3 years now. I'm I'm a business major and I have a couple of minors, communication and marketing and I've been involved in it in the club and the.
Yeah, I'm still peer mentor as well.
Well, that's great. Well thank you everyone for your nice introductions and I'm going to turn the attention back to Mr Ola and ask him the basically the topic today. What is the role of a Catholic College in the modern world?
Well, it's go ahead calling. I'm sorry.
How's it going? What do you think? I I? I think we should just attack the topic right away.
I mean, I think fundamentally the role of the Catholic colleges is the role of the church itself, which is to preach the gospel and to share the good news of Jesus Christ of the world. But how we do that is through a more educational institutional environment. And what that means is that it's not just one side, it's actually very interdisciplinary too. So at Holy Cross College we have what we call our core four or four main pillars that make up the framework of our entire college life. You know, we have we focus on building scholars, citizens, leaders and ultimately disciples.
Michael Griffin
09:12:35 PM
As you hear the responses, feel free to drop questions or comments here!
So the and this is really what I love about this model that we have at Holy Cross is that it's kind of the blueprint of how a Catholic college should operate in terms of of creating young men and women that are faith filled that are energetic in their lives and able to go out into the world to spread the good news. And so really those first 3 pillars of scholar system leaders really eventually build up and lead to disciple. So I mean, if you want to get.
That simple, like quick answer, I'd say ultimately, the Catholic institution is there to make disciples, and then from that that's just kind of like the seed to which the plant ultimately grows.
Thank you Andrew. I love the the detailed response. I really appreciate that until we get to our next question here now. What are some of the experiences and opportunities in the faith life students have at Holy Cross in the Tri campus?
What are some of the opportunities you say that?
Yeah, well yeah where some of the opportunities in the at Holy Cross and in the try try campus community in regards to the faith community.
Tina S.
09:13:48 PM
Hello from Troy, NY
James O.
09:13:51 PM
Is there adoration available once a month or more often? Also how often is Confession available?
Sure, sorry, I just thought you you change the slide. So I think this is a good starting .2 is that you know. I mean, obviously the Eucharist is the source and summit of our Catholic faith. And so we have daily Mass at Holy Cross at 12:25 Monday through Friday. And that's a beautiful time in which faculty and staff and students can come together to worship and pray together and then maybe go eat lunch afterwards in our dining Hall. So we have daily Mass. We have Sunday Liturgy is at 7:30 PM at night.
In which are liturgical choir sings are wonderful choir that Michaela is apart of Dane. David's actually an altar server. 2 and so it's great to see them on Sunday evenings, but including daily Mass. We also have weekly opportunities for adoration. We have what's called crux, which is our.
Holy hour on Tuesday nights from 9:00 to 10:00 PM and that's the time of silent prayer before the blessid sacrament and students are also able to go to confession during that time. And then we also do adoration at every first Friday of the month from 9:00 AM to noon. And that's a great time in which we have devotions to the Sacred Heart, confession going on, and the opportunity for mass at 12:25. Now, what makes our try campus so unique? And this is really what makes?
Catherine Ficker
09:15:13 PM
James, as Andrew said, we have confession a couple times a week. Adoration every 1st Friday.
Our area so special, you know. I mean, we have three dynamically Catholic institutions on 933, which is the state road that were on and we're right next door to Saint Mary's College, which is a wonderful institution of the Sisters of the Holy Cross and then right across the street. We have of course University of Notre Dame, so our students are able to participate in their faith, not just at Holy Cross, but collaboratively an as members of one body of Christ in a try campus area so students can go to mass at Notre Dame to Saint Mary's to take.
James O.
09:15:29 PM
Thank you!
Mikayleigh Clark
09:15:47 PM
We have adoration every Tuesday night for a couple of hours as well.
Our students are members of the full choir at Notre Dame. There's as many, many, many opportunities there. I think there's like 120 or 130. Mass is a week just on our main road there, so there's plenty of times to go to mass. Well until like the late evening 10 eleven o'clock at night on Sundays.
Oh, thank you Andrew, I really appreciate that now to start attacking our student panelists here. Uh, what are some of the OR describe a time? You appreciated those opportunities presented at Holy Cross or within the try campus community.
We could start with anyone. Let's start with David if you don't mind.
Camille T.
09:16:29 PM
What is the main thing at Holy Cross that helped you grow in your faith?
Sure, I'm sorry I was. I was responding with typing out a reply to James. You look so get some other people applying there. I just want to add really quickly to your question. James about it. I should most priests after any mass will be like more than willing to hear confession too. But anyways, onto the question so so faith experiences at Holy Cross that I valued.
Oh yeah, yeah, I don't I don't. I mean I don't really know where to begin it there. Um, I think that the faith live at Holy Cross College has its influenced me in the classroom, its influence, the friendships I've formed.
Bri B.
09:16:57 PM
Is there a limit of how many ministries you can be apart of? At my church I'm an EMHC, Cantor, Lector, and Sacristan and I love doing all of it.
Mikayleigh Clark
09:17:04 PM
I especially love the Daily Masses! They really helped me grow in my faith life.
Uhm, and I think my my favorite part about being at Holy Cross College and probably the overarching sort of theme that's kind of rekindled my own fate since coming back to college is that in the environment, in the Holy Cross environment, you know Catholicism is something that people don't shy away from, and you know, coming into college.
I wasn't super involved in my faith and I needed some people that got pushed me along there. And you know, considering the capping environment the colleges I was able to find those friends and mentor figures that kind of push me along, answered my questions and even my frustrations too. So that's really been the biggest benefit for me. Being at Holy Cross with the faith.
Great, awesome McKay Lee. I know you're involved in the acquire, so do you have any other opportunities or any other things that you're involved in that you really appreciate?
Yeah, so I definitely agree with Dave about there being a plethora of great Catholic mentors at Holy Cross that you can find for your faith life.
Catherine Ficker
09:17:55 PM
Bri, there is no limit! but we do encourage academic, social and faith life balance!
Um, something I really love though, is that we have a Chapel on campus that's always open.
I would like to go in there at night sometimes if I am feeling a little stressed or something and I just need a quiet environment that's very peaceful to kind of gather my thoughts or whatever.
So I really like the Chapel that's there.
Melany S.
09:18:21 PM
I heard that it is not required to be religious and that we are given opportunities to figure out if we want to follow a religion. How would that work?
I have to agree with you, that's probably one of the biggest things I appreciate is going to mass at lunch. It helps me like recenter. What's most important in life and just kind of relax and destress. I really appreciate that opportunity as well now I like to jump over to Jimmy A little bit. I like to.
Catherine Ficker
09:18:43 PM
Melany, all are welcome at HCC. You are welcome to practice your faith or no faith.
Have you answer this question first? Now you just heard all this? Do you need to be Catholic at Holy Cross water? What is the benefit of attending faith based college? Michael across if you're not Catholic.
Catherine Ficker
09:19:09 PM
Jemmy is addressing this now :)
First of all, attending a faith based school is like the first thing I was looking for. I'm not Catholic, but growing up like I went only to get like schools like from middle school. Till now I didn't. I couldn't believe it. I will be at the Catholic college right now so I'm very happy about it. So in my country in the Congo, Catholic schools are considered as the best schools. So like if one of the kids have the best education.
Faith and all of that Catholic School. An that's where our parent. That's how appearance decided for us. And getting here at Holy Cross.
Melany S.
09:19:36 PM
thank you
Ryan D.
09:20:01 PM
What are theology classes like at Holy Cross?
The most beautiful experience for me was, as always been a we always be the the retreats like I love it. It's just a time where sometimes we just feel like overwhelmed with classes and everything. But when it goes to the retreat, it just like this place of peaceful like this place where you can be yourself with God and build your faith and sometimes we feel like we are overwhelmed with our daily lives, classes and everything.
Around those people, but the retreat is just like a different word. It just like a place you want to reconnect with God Ann.
Be reminded of who you really are. Is a Christian, so I really think it's really important and I as not as a non Catholic I.
David Napierkowski
09:20:30 PM
There are some awesome professors @Ryan
I don't really like feel any difference like I'm welcome them treated the same and I really love that about Holy Cross. I really enjoy that.
Andrew P.
09:20:46 PM
What are the different kinds of retreats offered at HCC and in the Tri Campus Community?
Thank you, I was very passionate response. I really appreciate that. That's one of the things I really, really admire about Holy Cross is that we respect the dignity of every person, regardless of race, Creed, background, social status.
David Napierkowski
09:20:50 PM
Hopefully we can answer your question on air
Everyone is loved and welcomed and respect those who share our faith and those who do not. Everyone is welcome and that's what I really, really appreciate in. Specially in today's times.
Andrew Ouellette
09:21:02 PM
The professors are pretty special
Now I'm going to address this question. Everyone here, including Andrew.
Ryan D.
09:21:18 PM
Haha great, thanks!
What's a modern challenges some student phase some students face with their faith? And how does Holy Cross help prepare students to face these challenges?
That's a really good question.
Mikayleigh Clark
09:21:41 PM
There is definitely a wide range of classes so you can explore Theology.
Perhaps maybe like this can open up some discussion with with our students on the panel too, because I think that I don't. I don't want to really speak for like young people as a whole, but but perhaps maybe I could just share with like my experience of going to college and the challenges with that I experienced during that time and then and then. Perhaps I can share like my experience from working at Holy Cross College too. And just from being in that setting, you know? So I went to public school my whole life. I was in public school, K through 12.
Selena P.
09:22:00 PM
I am having trouble hearing the audio from Colin and David...
Tom Z.
09:22:02 PM
I can't hear half the speakers talking, is there something I can do on my end to fix that?
Chris N.
09:22:02 PM
About how many students are catholic at Holy Cross
And I'm also a convert to. I ended up becoming Catholic when I was 16.
Catherine Ficker
09:22:09 PM
If you have audi/visual troubles, try refreshing your browser
Now when I when I did my first year of college, I kind of felt like I was like.
Catherine Ficker
09:22:19 PM
Chrome seems to work best
David Napierkowski
09:22:24 PM
I'll work on my audio too!
First of all, there was this new experience of freedom that I that I had that I never really I didn't know really, really know what to do with it because it seemed like on one side, one side that I can do whatever I want you know. But then on the other side it was realizing I couldn't do anything I wanted and recognizing my own limitations with that, I think that like for me, what was most challenging for my faith journey as a young college student was really to.
To figure out a way in which I could make it my own the way that I could really develop a prayer life, develop that intimacy with Christ in a way that I couldn't be cut, or in a way that was more difficult because I was kind of on my own in that I didn't have any krutch of going to Catholic school are going to my youth group are going to the regular church where I knew all the same people or whatnot. It was really just kind of getting out of my shell and so.
So I think you have that that aspect of freedom and what to do with that freedom because you have to ask the question, is freedom really doing whatever I want or is it the ability to choose the good and the beautiful in the true?
And so when you're wrestling with this questions of freedom, you also have to wrestle with like, well, how can I? How can I be more intentional in my faith in an environment that is diverse that is beautifully diverse, but also presents challenges at the same time? How can I be a witness to my faith, to to my peers, especially friends or peers of mine, stupid fellow students of mine that maybe did not share the same faith that I had or were coming from different backgrounds. So those were some of the challenges I experience.
Michael Griffin
09:24:05 PM
About 2/3 of the student body is Catholic. One of the distinctive aspects of Holy Cross is its strong, Catholic formation without being in a bubble.
Being at Holy Cross College and on the side of a staff and faculty member, I can say that that what makes Holy Cross truly unique is that you know we have this phrase distinctly Catholic and open to all wear. Our institution is truly distinctly Catholic. We have this. There is this atmosphere that you kind of breathe in our Catholic faith, life and and specifically our spirituality as a Holy Cross institution, but also at the same time you have the ability to.
To develop into the person you were created to be. But also we have plenty of resources at our college that make it available for you to go deeper if you wish or desire to in your faith so, but maybe I don't know if we could. This could be really great discussion from our students of their own active 2.
Hey I am really sorry to bug in here, I do think.
Absolutely. And if you have a anyone that's tuning in. If you have any questions at all, feel free to just put him in the chat room and we will address as many questions as we can at the end of the session.
I think some. I think a number of our viewers are having issues.
Do the students here our student panelists. You guys have any, uh?
I, you, and Jordan are actually kind of competing for right now.
I don't know if college, so both column and David. Um, if both of you could leave the control room and come back in David and Colin.
OK can you can you hear me now?
David will you tell Colin to if you could leave? I will take this and then, uh, we're having a number of viewers who are having a hard time seeing and hearing David and Colin and they see me just talking to myself so someone could pass that messsage to call in so that he could leave and come back. Perfect, great. So actually as they join us again, sorry again for the technical difficulties this does happen sometimes, but Michaela, do you want to speak a little bit on those topics that Andrew?
Um brought up about being able to find your faith at a Catholic school and and be more confident in your beliefs and how that can really give you some tools for how you face the challenges that you're going to to see in a very modern world.
David Napierkowski
09:26:19 PM
Sorry about that folks!
Yes, so one thing I like about Holy Cross is how diverse it is. We do have people there that aren't Catholic, so obviously they share a different view from me. So sometimes when speaking to people will have differing opinions on.
Different topics, but then I feel as though that forces me to really delve deeper into my faith and learn more about it, so I'm more certain in my views and therefore able to defend how I feel a lot better.
So it can pose a challenge to be around a diverse population with different different views, but I think it's also.
A good thing I can help you grow.
Esteban A.
09:27:10 PM
Are there any student groups that are centered around the Catholic faith that help you understand it better?
Uh, if you guys can hear me, I'd be happy to take that on.
Catherine Ficker
09:27:39 PM
Yes, there are many opportunities to grow in understanding of the Catholic faith.
Over you, hopefully you guys can hear me and see Maine and Whatnot, but Uhm, Yeah. So so. the Catholic. the Catholic nature of Holy Cross College. It really. It really does kind of percolate throughout the rest of the campus, and the curriculum. Kind of like what I mentioned earlier, and I've seen it very kind of explicitly in my business card with two. So business and theology are to our business, and faith are too like very you know, kind of almost clashing.
Mikayleigh Clark
09:28:11 PM
I think our Theology classes are very helpful in learning more about the Catholic Faith as well.
Camille T.
09:28:14 PM
Does a group from Holy Cross go on March for Life every year?
Andrew Ouellette
09:28:15 PM
Esteban - we have theology on tap twice a month, and we have RCIA classes for those desiring to learn more about the Catholic faith.
Catherine Ficker
09:28:16 PM
From Campus Ministries to Theology courses and also from your classmates and friends.
Andrew Ouellette
09:28:19 PM
We do!
Uhm, school sometimes clashing realms, but what's cool about? You know the faith background boy crosses that kind of grounds. The entire academic pursuit, so you know, for example, in one of my business classes were talking about different models of a Corporation. And then you know, we spend time on how to incorporate the common good into that. So in its own way is the Catholicism grounds the rest.
Of the topic and the rest of the academic pursuit, so hopefully that makes sense.
Andrew Ouellette
09:28:35 PM
Actually, the tri-campus community takes close to 20 buses every year!
Geology majors, so all of my classes are.
Catherine Ficker
09:28:51 PM
Camille, Yes, we send a group of students/faculty and staff every year to the March for Life.
I don't know if I can offer much input about how theology can affect the other kinds of classes we take.
Yeah, like I said I have a lot of favorite favorite UM, memories and I'm somebody who came in with a lot of these kind of concerns and challenges. Kind of what Andrew let was talking about. A lot of questions that people willing to meet me where I was at. It sort of yeah, be friend me and figure that out, but I think my favorite opportunity, my favorite, faith based opportunity that's happened at Holy Cross is definitely the friendships that I've been able to.
Form through campus ministry or through, you know, going to see father Mike Schmitz talk at Notre Dame or other or retreat or something. Um, and it's in those friendships that have been grounded in faith that it really kind of made me who into the person I am today and I'm extremely grateful for that. So it's not maybe that's kind of a cop out answer, but it's. It's really the only parents I can give.
Sophia D.
09:30:30 PM
how many professors catholic? and are even non-theology classes taught with a catholic perspective?
Maria S.
09:30:33 PM
Mikayleigh, why did you decide to study both theology and psychology? Do you see a connection between these fields?
Oh, I have one. I have the experience. I like the most is when we share the word of God can be the retreat can be in class 'cause it's OK theology class last spring you can be with French's discussions and I like to hear like different point of views from people. It really helps me understand it better. 'cause sometimes I can read Bible verse and I can understand in my own way. But when we share with other people they give their life experiences.
It's really helpful an it helps to understand.
Better the word of God when we share with other people, especially people who are more mature. People were more experience with the ministry. It's really helpful for us as students when we are looking forward to going into our faith. It's really important for us when we have people who are helping us understand better the Scriptures.
Oh, I was actually just typing out an answer to that question, I thought.
Michael Griffin
09:31:53 PM
Great questions. Feel free to chime in one last time if you like with a question, or what you resonate with about the potential benefit of attending a Catholic college.
Um, so part of the reason is I already have a deep love for psychology. That's what I came into. Holy Cross thinking. I was going to study. So even when I decided I wanted to change my major to theology, I really wanted to keep it in to learn more. But as I've learned more about both theology and psychology, I think there can be a connection is because I mean God is the one who made us. He's the one that made our minds and how they function so.
Catherine Ficker
09:32:07 PM
Sophia, most of our professors are Catholic. Our education is rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition, but taught with an openness to all.
There is a connection in it is science.
Uh, I also just think learning about science helps us learn more about the magnificence of God's creation and how. Even like there's such minute things that are so intriguing and wonderful.
So I don't know if there is as Directiva Connection is there might be between sort of biology in theology, but I do think there are connections there.
David Napierkowski
09:32:42 PM
I'd say most of the professors are Catholic. There are definitely non-theo classes taught from a Catholic perspective. Some that come to mind are Business Ethics and really all the Philo courses
So calling McKinley McKinley is actually one of my students in my 240 class.
Michaela will probably remember to in our class we talk about, we've talked about how theology itself is also a science, and in fact is is the Queen of all Sciences and how, how, and what that means to be a science and Whatnot. So it's just for me is the professor to be here in this setting. It's really great to see our students talking about the harmony of faith and reason. You know? I mean which there is that real harmony there.
David Napierkowski
09:33:31 PM
But that doesn't mean that a Catholic perspective is coerced upon the students at all
Bob H.
09:33:40 PM
what careers are the students hoping to pursue and how do they feel their faith education will help them?
Maria S.
09:33:46 PM
Thanks for your answer, Mikayleigh! Well said!
Yeah, uh, actually I can just type down my answer. I would be happy to comment on it. So um, yeah, there there aren't will definitely. I would say most of the pressures of Catholic.
And I've definitely taking courses that are non theology courses that do include a Catholic perspective. I just mentioned one that was called corporate social responsibility when I talk about earlier but also business ethics and really all the philosophy courses traditional philosophy is has been integrated into the Catholic intellectual tradition for a very long time. So they often go hand in hand.
And let's see, I'm trying to think of other courses outside of my majors and minors that I've had. You know, even in my English classes, sometimes will comment on, you, know, the Catholic background of some writers or some pieces of literature. But all That being said, that does not mean that like a Catholic perspective, let's say in business ethics or something. It's not to say that that perspective is necessarily coerced. Appanna students is just there because it's accounting institution and might as well cover that ground. If you're, you know.
Sophia D.

09:35:02 PM
How interconnected are all the tri-campus schools? Are many events, both religious and social (i.e sports) combined or are they all fairly independent upon the schools.
Can you guys hear me? You're good.
Catherine Ficker
09:35:40 PM
Great question re: tri-campus! our next session is devoted to the Tri-campus advantage! Hope you can tune in then!
Yeah, I've been to the March couple times and I I want to talk about this along with some other students chance to cover this, but it was great. I mean, it's it's a trip to DC and you get to see so so many people marching for this cause it's extremely impactful opportunity and it's not expensive to go at all. So I'll leave the rest of the other students so they could talk about that.
Andrew P.
09:35:59 PM
What are the different kinds of retreats offered at HCC and in the Tri Campus Community?
Yeah, I got to go to the March for life for the first time this year and it was beautiful. I couldn't even wrapped my mind around how many people were there. It was a really nice experience and it was also really nice to be able to experience it with fellow students of mine. Just get to partake in the joy of it together.
That's great, call it Colin. Can you hear Maine?
Catherine Ficker
09:36:32 PM

09:36:37 PM
What are the types of programs you offer that are associated with the Catholic faith?
David Napierkowski
09:36:40 PM
I've had some awesome faith-experiences on the tri-campus. Silent retreats, visiting speakers, taking theo courses at ND, etc.
Great discussion and I I am sorry to to kind of come in and have to to cut it off. Now we have. We've run to the end of time. We usually we advertise these as 30 minutes. I always let him go a little longer than they go even a little longer than that, but this has been really enjoyable and every time I hear about the experiences that our students have, whether they are Catholic or not Catholic to be able to explore faith that grow in faith, to ask big questions and see how faith and spirituality.
Um is not just something that might happen on a Sunday, but can coincide with education and the way you build relationships, and ultimately, how you choose a career or vocation. Path really inspired an great to see students like David like jamian like Mckaley really knowing that Holy Cross because of it being a Catholic institution has shaped the students in many more ways than may have happened if they went to another school that was not.
Camille T.
09:37:29 PM
Thank you for talking about March for Life. I hope to get to go again in college.
Catherine Ficker
09:37:41 PM
if we did not yet answer your question, we will do our best to review the chat and get back to you in the next couple days.
David Napierkowski
09:37:42 PM
There are Bible studies, campus ministry positions, mentor opportunities, fellowships, and more @Jessica
Faith based maybe they had opportunities and another school to maybe join a faith group or a Bible study. But to really integrate a faith life into a community in and out of the classroom is very unique at Holy Cross and something we hold very dear among the try campus community at Notre Dame, St Mary's and Holy Cross College and for our guests and viewers. A lot of questions that come up about opportunities not only at Holy Cross but across the Tri Campus community.
David Napierkowski
09:38:04 PM
Oh and pilgrimages!
In addition to our robust campus ministries office and the retreats in the pilgrimage is that we offer our students regularly look to opportunities through campus ministry at the University of Notre Dame for opportunities to join a faith, sharing groups, nondenominational Catholic Emmaus Bible studies and retreats, and also some amazing opportunities, not just at Holy Cross like Mckaley to sing in the church choir, but to Minister through music through many groups at at Notre Dame as well.
And I'm going to give a little shout out because, uh, Andrew gave a shout out to the full choir at Notre Dame there Holy Cross students in that choir. I'm going to give a shout out to the liturgical choir at Notre Dame. That liturgical choir was acquired that I was apart of when I was a student at the University of Notre Dame. And there are St Mary's Holy Cross and Notre Dame students in that choir and they minister every Sunday morning at the solemn Mass at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
Andrew Ouellette
09:39:14 PM
We also have a daily Rosary, Theology on Tap at O'Rourke's Irish Pub twice a month, Spes Unica retreats each semester, and pilgrimages to Montreal, Lourdes, and Washington DC (March for Life)!
And that matches televised live on Catholic TV, so 10s of thousands of people across the nation and even globally TuneIn be apart of that ministry on line in our students get to be apart of that. So I want everyone to think about not only the opportunities here at holy that happen in the classroom and their dormitories, but then that benefit of our try campus community as well as promised we do have.
Michael Griffin
09:39:26 PM
And hey everybody, tell your parents that this Thursday at noon, I am hosting a special Holy Cross Live episode for parents to learn more about HC and the tri-campus. The registration info is on the Holy Cross admissions page!
Esteban A.
09:39:34 PM
What kind of pilgrimages are part of the HC and Tri-Campus community?
Some winners, uh, for our gift cards. But before I announce our winners, I do want to remind everybody that we have four more episodes of Holy Cross live between now and the end of the month. Our next one is particularly for parents, so if you're a parent, we encourage you to register your student, encourage apparent to register. So we're going to have a conversation for an with parents this Thursday afternoon.
At 12:00 o'clock PM Eastern Time, so this is a lunch time chat or as all the others have been at 9:00 PM. This will be a lunchtime chat within four parents, so we're going to have parents of Holy Cross students and we encourage many parents. But there's some two students. TuneIn that's OK, but it's mainly for parents to have a discussion about what it means to send a child to Holy Cross College. Then we have some episodes on the try campus advantage. So again, talking about those social and academic.
Catherine Ficker

Academic opportunities faith oppurtunity across our campus community and because we had so much fun that are very first episode with a student panel. We're going to do another channel, and that will be our last episode that we offer in that student panel is going to be technically just full Q&A. The entire time. So any questions about meal plans and choosing classes and picking dorm rooms and living on campus and do you have a bike or do you not have a bike tips for buying books?
Andrew Ouellette
09:41:16 PM
Jordan mentione Emmaus. Emmaus groups are small groups of men and women who meet together weekly to break open the Scriptures, pray for one another, and fellowship. These groups are open to all students!
Whatever those questions that you might have that you would love to ask, the current student tune in for a very last episode where we're talking a Q&A with our current students. And then of course, I always do give a plug for our bookstore at Holy Cross College. Free shipping. I believe currently because no one is able to visit campus. Unfortunately, to visit the store. So if you would like to purchase some Holy Cross sweatshirts or T-shirts and switch up or hats to have your.
Holy Cross swag. I go ahead and you can go to their website. Colin can you put up the uh, the website for the bookstore and then I will announce our gift card for the night.
